Kai Cenat has won the LBA (Little Basketball Association) championship with the New York City Skyscrapers, who sailed past the Pheonix Towers in the final. The "retired" Twitch streamer even had renowned announcer Bruce Buffer introduce him by calling out his name. The content creator has been collaborating with a lot of celebrities for the league, including rapper Rubi Rose, who made a special appearance at the final.
Cenat announced his retirement from streaming last month to pursue a professional basketball career. On September 27, 2024, he hosted a draft for his own league, called the Little Ballers Association (LBA), which is modeled after the NBA. The draft featured appearances from notable sports personalities like Stephen A. Smith, who humorously trolled Cenat for not being picked third.
Since then, Cenat has been playing with kids and has faced some playful trolling from other sports figures online. Before the final games, sports journalist Chris Haynes posted on X that Cenat had suffered a knee injury.
"Sources say New York City Sky guard/retired streamer @KaiCenat left the arena with a right knee sprain after Monday nights game. He’ll likely be ready for the Finals tonight, but it’ll be a game-time decision. Kai Cenat’s legacy is on the line," reported Chris Haynes on X.
However, it seems Cenat was healthy enough to play in the LBA final, and his team went on to win the league.
Bruce Buffer announces Kai Cenat for his LBA final game, where he scored his first 3-pointer in the league
The Little Ballers Association (LBA) is a junior basketball league created by Kai Cenat shortly after he announced his retirement from content creation. Fans were entertained by the news of him starting a new league, and the event has attracted significant online attention, with the mainstream sports community also chiming in and poking fun at the streamer for playing with kids.
Although it isn’t a professional league, Cenat has received praise for the LBA’s production quality. Having Bruce Buffer announce him for the final game highlights his dedication to the project. While the Twitch star has been getting a lot of flak for not performing well on the court, he managed to score his first 3-pointer.
It is unclear whether Kai Cenat will be resuming his regular streaming schedule now that the LBA is over. Considering he recently lost the Twitch streamer subscriber record to Ironmouse, he has his work cut out for him if he chooses to make a comeback soon.
