Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani recently said in a post on X that the streaming platform was either going to surpass Twitch or acquire the Amazon-owned website. The statement came after Tehrani commented on a post about Kai Cenat seemingly being offered a multimillion-dollar deal to switch platforms.
Since its foundation in 2022, Kick quickly became a rival of Twitch. Lucrative creator splits and their competitive creator programs with higher payouts, coupled with big signings, such as xQc, have no doubt fueled the platform's growth. Although it has some ways to go, with rumors about one of its biggest streamers, Adin Ross, supposedly leaving the platform, one co-founder seems to think that Kick will inevitably take over Twitch.
On November 13, Bijan Tehrani claimed that Kick is at "record usage" and that their focus is on long-term growth. Tehrani also stated that the platform will either overtake Twitch or they will buy out the competition:
"Don’t write off kick though, we are at record usage and hungrier than ever. But our focus has shifted to long term. The goal is still the same, we will either beat twitch or buy them out."
Kick co-founder says he has "big respect" for Kai Cenat and revealed the platform is not doing big signings amid recent contract drama
As mentioned, Bijan Tehrani's comments about surpassing Twitch come after a clip of Kai Cenat talking about supposed offers from Kick went viral on social media. For context, Kai Cenat is currently one of the most popular streamers in the world and he primarily streams on Twitch. During his ongoing and record-breaking Mafiathon 2 stream, Kai Cenat claimed that Kick offered him a contract worth $60 million to move to their platform.
Fellow streamer and part of the Kick team, Trainwreckstv, attempted to refute those claims and claimed that the number offered was far lesser and that the deal was for a contract for three years. This got Kai's attention, who responded by clarifying that multiple deals were offered because he kept declining the deals.
Kai Cenat also mentioned that he did not really "give a f**k" about the offers, seemingly not giving the situation much stock. Under one such clip, Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani revealed that the platform had tried to sign Kai and IShowSpeed some time ago but failed as the duo signed a contract with Rumble instead:
"Big respect to Kai, we tried to get him and speed over but we didn’t even have a mobile app at the time. Ultimately they signed with rumble which gave them a lot more flexibility (1-2 streams a month)."
Bijan Tehrani also announced that Kick is currently not doing big signings and is focusing on developing and perfecting their technology:
"We aren’t doing big signings right now, our priority is our tech."
Kai Cenat is perhaps one of the most popular streamers in the world at the moment. The Twitch star recently bagged five nominations for himself at the 2024 Streamer Awards organized by QTCinderella.
