YouTube star Jimmy "MrBeast" has gone viral yet again after claiming that he would buy TikTok so that the media platform doesn't get banned in the United States. For those out of the loop, the American Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Friday (January 10, 2025) to pass a law requiring TikTok to be sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, by January 19, 2025. If this does not happen, the social media platform may face a ban in the United States.
On January 13, 2025, a Bloomberg report surfaced on X, suggesting that Elon Musk was considering purchasing TikTok. On the same day, MrBeast said on X that he would buy the video-sharing platform so that it does not face suspension in the US:
"Okay fine, I'll buy Tik Tok so it doesn't get banned."
As expected, the Kansas native's post quickly went viral, eliciting responses from thousands of netizens. X user @MrxFlip suggested that the content creator should "go in" and partner with Elon Musk to purchase TikTok.
"Not a bad idea, just go in with Elon Musk and be partners," @MrxFlip stated.
Some fans were surprised by the post.
"Are you for real now?" X user @shadowninjaa commented.
"Really??" X user @daedalprincess responded.
"You fr (for real)?" X user @BronGotGame stated.
Popular YouTuber Lazarbeam also shared his thoughts on the situation.
"Save America from having to watch Instagram reels," Lazarbeam wrote.
However, X user @KimberlyMariey speculated that MrBeast's purchase of TikTok could affect his YouTube channel.
"You don't want to piss off YouTube. They would likely destroy your algorithm reach if you owned their competitor. It would be a risk. What if YouTube overtakes TikTok? Also, you would have to get quite the loan, and involve venture capital investors. It could be the right move... what do I know?" @KimberlyMariey remarked.
