YouTube star Jimmy "MrBeast" has shed light on the issues with his vision after having his eyes examined. On December 11, 2024, the Wichita, Kansas native replied to X user @samanthalmac's X post from November 25, 2024. In the social media post, the netizen commented on people claiming that MrBeast "does not smile with his eyes":
"My husband says MrBeast doesn't smile with his eyes, but I don't see it. What do you think?"
In response, the most subscribed YouTuber disclosed that he had been diagnosed with severe astigmatism, adding that he "can't see" without his contact lenses. Explaining why his eyes "used to look off" in photographs when he smiled, MrBeast wrote:
"Funny story, I get this comment a lot and it's why I got my eyes examined, and I found out I have a severe astigmatism and my vision is horrible. Without contacts, I can't see unless I'm squinting, and that's why my eyes used to look off in photos when I smiled. So thanks to everyone who pointed it out, you helped me realize objects far away are not supposed to be blurry and now I have contacts, lol."
Here's how fans reacted to the 26-year-old internet star's revelation:
"I remember when I got glasses in the 5th grade. The first thing I noticed was that the tile in the mall had patterns on it and I could see dirt on the floor," X user @TheSeph responded.
"Social media community helping others!" X user @ethshovel wrote.
"I've worn contacts for so long, that I can't really go back to glasses. Have had astigmatism since I was a little kid. Wearing contacts for the first time, was life-changing," X user @xeokeri commented.
"I have this same issue. It's basically a hazard for me to drive at night while raining without contacts. Even glasses don't help, has to be contacts," X user @KwazXD said.
What other medical condition does MrBeast have?
In addition to severe astigmatism, MrBeast has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. For those unaware, Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes swelling and irritation of the digestive tract.
Last year, in September 2023, Jimmy opened up about how his medical condition caused him to drop out of an amateur baseball league, writing:
"I played baseball every day for almost a decade. Sometimes, the middle school season and rec league season would overlap, and I'd have two different practices in a day, lol. But sadly, when I got Crohn’s disease, I lost all my muscle/50 pounds and ended up quitting (baseball) for YouTube."
MrBeast made headlines on November 28, 2024, when he took to X to show off a collection of Guinness World Records that his upcoming Amazon Prime show, Beast Games, had broken.
