On December 19, 2024, YouTuber Jimmy "MrBeast" launched his Amazon Prime series Beast Games, featuring high-stakes challenges for cash prizes. The show has drawn comparisons to Netflix's Squid Game, especially as its third episode coincided with the release of Squid Game Season 2, fueling discussions about their similarities.

The YouTuber has also had a few back-and-forths with Netflix's official X page to promote his series on Prime Video. Recently, perhaps to commemorate Squid Game's second season, Jimmy mentioned the possibility of a sequel to his most-viewed video, $456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!:

"Should I recreate Squid Games 2 in real life like we did with the first season?"

As mentioned, MrBeast was seen promoting Beast Games on the announcement and countdown posts for Squid Game 2 on Netflix's X page. This could be because the YouTuber's version of the show's concept has over 682 million views on his channel, making it his most-viewed video yet.

The video was released in November 2021, and the production was a real-life adaptation of the popular South Korean Netflix series featuring 456 contestants competing in various challenges for a grand prize of $456,000.

The video meticulously recreated several games from the original series, including "Red Light, Green Light," the Dalgona candy challenge, tug-of-war, and the glass bridge challenge. Unlike the lethal consequences depicted in the show, participants in MrBeast's version were eliminated without harm, with each receiving at least $2,000 as a consolation prize.

The production reportedly cost around $3.5 million, with $2 million allocated for set design and production, and $1.5 million distributed as cash prizes.

The show also faced some controversy, and some critics argued that it missed the original series' commentary on economic disparity and the human condition. Despite these critiques, the video's success underscores MrBeast's significant impact on YouTube's content landscape and his ability to engage audiences with large-scale, high-budget productions.

In other news, MrBeast revealed plans to invest $14 million in constructing a city exclusively for participants in Beast Games.
