The first two episodes of YouTube star turned reality TV show host MrBeast's highly-anticipated show Beast Games were recently released on Amazon Prime Video. The show's premise revolves around extreme challenges and psychological games that lead up to a $5 million cash prize and more. Based on this, some comparisons have been made to Netflix's Squid Game.
Recently, the streamer replied to a Squid Game countdown post on Netflix's official X account. The post featured a video of the show's protagonist, Seong Gi-hun, shouting commands at the contestant crowd. The post's caption said "Two days until Squid Game 2" and on scrolling down a bit, MrBeast posted a reply referencing his own work, Beast Games:
"And Beast Games episode 3!"
When does Beast Games episode 3 come out?
The release of Beast Games' first and second episodes made the show number one in over 50 countries. Now, the momentum is set to build as the third episode releases on December 26, 2024. Subsequent episodes are scheduled for release every Thursday.
MrBeast claimed Episode 3 would be "ten times better" than the previous episodes, suggesting significant developments or surprises in the upcoming installment.
An Amazon Prime Video subscription is required to watch Beast Games. New subscribers can use the 30-day free trial to access the series.
In November 2021, MrBeast released a video titled "$456,000 Squid Game in Real Life!" in which he meticulously recreated the games from the series, involving 456 participants competing for a $456,000 prize. This production reportedly cost $3.5 million, with $2 million allocated for sets and production and $1.5 million for cash prizes.
The structure of elimination-based challenges and substantial cash rewards are present in Beast Games and Squid Games, which is where most of the parallels are drawn.
However, while Squid Game serves as a critique of capitalist society and the desperation it can breed, the YouTuber's adaptations focus more on entertainment and spectacle.
A highlight from the Beast Games show's qualifiers was when a contestant's actions led to her team's elimination during the qualifiers, causing them to miss out on a $50,000 bribe offered by MrBeast due to a technicality.
