YouTube star Jimmy "MrBeast" recently saw the release of his Amazon Prime Video show, Beast Games. It revolves around people competing in challenges for a whopping $5 million cash prize. Due to the number of contestants and structure of this show, many are comparing it to Netflix's 2021 hit series, Squid Game.
On X, MrBeast has been responding to posts made by the Netflix handle, essentially promoting his own Amazon show. Both platforms are prominent players in the streaming industry and offer a wide variety of on-demand video content, including movies, TV shows, and original programming.
After Beast Games' third epsiode was released on December 26, 2024, MrBeast responded to a promotional post from Netflix that stated Squid Game's second season was live. He said:
"So is…. Um.. Beast Games episode 3!"
What is Beast Games about?
MrBeast's Beast Games, a reality competition TV series, likely draws inspiration from the concept of Squid Game. In 2021, Jimmy created a YouTube video called "$456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!," where contestants were seen competing in challenges inspired by the Netflix series.
This video became one of his most viewed projects, showcasing his ability to transform fictional, high-stakes competitions into entertaining real-life challenges. Beast Games features similar large-scale challenges but puts a unique twist on them.
While the new show offers the thrill of witnessing intense competition, its tone is much more family-friendly than Squid Game and aligned with the YouTuber’s signature style of rewarding participants and presenting uplifting experiences.
By the end of the first episode of Beast Games, over half of the 1,000 contestants were eliminated — going into Episode 3, only 242 players remain.
The participants have officially settled into the $14 million city that MrBeast constructed to host the games. In Episode 3, tensions escalated as the stakes grew higher under the gamemaster’s increasingly intense tactics. Participants were forced into groups of three with their closest friends, only to face a gut-wrenching decision: choosing which one among them would be eliminated.
The psychological pressure mounted, showcasing the lengths players would go to secure their place in the competition. By the end of Episode 3, MrBeast announced only 54 contestants would be advancing to the game's next stage, a $1.8 million island.
In other news, MrBeast has expressed disappointment over a critic's 2/10 rating of Beast Games. Despite this, the show has achieved significant viewership milestones, ranking as the top-rated show on Amazon Prime Video in over 50 countries.
