MrBeast says he encourages other YouTubers to repost his content in reply to MKBHD's poll about accounts "stealing" videos

In an X post dated January 6, 2025, Jimmy "MrBeast" said he does not have a problem with other YouTubers reposting his content as YouTube Shorts. In fact, the most-subscribed YouTuber encourages it. Jimmy's statement was in reply to a poll posted by fellow YouTuber Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD.

As one of the most popular tech YouTubers, MKBHD has a big following and has recently been at the center of certain controversies. In a post on X, Marques Brownlee asked his followers what they would do if another YouTube channel was "stealing" content from them and editing it into YouTube Shorts, which have garnered almost 100 million views.

MKBHD wrote:

"If you found a YouTube channel that has been stealing your content, re-cutting it and uploading it as Shorts that have accumulated almost 100 million views, what would you do? Asking for a friend"

Brownlee's post was in the form of a poll, with the optional answers being either "Leave it. It's free promo" or "Ask to remove it." MrBeast, whose subscriber count recently surpassed that of the population of the United States, indicated in a reply that he would go with the first option.

MrBeast also claimed that he encourages other YouTubers who are "re-cutting and uploading" his content as YouTube Shorts:

"I wouldn’t mind, I encourage it!"

MrBeast removes the copyright from the first episode of Beast Games to allow other content creators to freely upload reactions

While some content creators are known for being very strict with DMCA and copyright claims, MrBeast has a history of being lenient about others using his videos for reactions. On April 3, 2023, the YouTuber addressed his stance on the issue in a post on X and wrote:

"If you’re a streamer or youtuber and ever want to react to our videos, go for it! I don’t mind"

More recently, MrBeast showed how open he was with his content by removing copyright from the first episode of Beast Games, the game show he produced with Amazon for Prime Video. A day before the show premiered, the YouTuber made this announcement on social media:

"I removed all copyright for episode 1 reacting for all platforms! (Obviously you can't just straight reupload it with no reaction haha). This only applies to episode 1"
