Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, is about to walk down the aisle after he proposed to his girlfriend and fellow content creator Thea Booysen on Christmas. The couple shared details of the lowkey proposal with People. As per an interview, published on January 1, 2025, the couple shared that the proposal happened in their home, surrounded by both of their families who flew in for the holidays.
The newly engaged couple also shared their plans for the big day with the outlet, saying that they are thinking of saying "I do" on an island and that it would be a small and intimate ceremony. Booysen told People:
"We're thinking of doing it somewhere on an island where we're far away from just about everybody. We're not going to try and have a big, extravagant wedding. It's going to be nicer but it's certainly going to be intimate [with] close family and friends."
While MrBeast is often in the spotlight as one of the highest-paid content creators, he usually keeps his personal life and relationship with Thea Booysen private. However, both of them have posted about each other on social media. They reportedly met in 2022, per People, when MrBeast went to Booysen's home country of South Africa. They had a mutual friend who invited Booysen along during a dinner with the YouTuber and the rest is history.

MrBeast and Thea Booysen recall the "private and intimate" wedding proposal on Christmas Day
While MrBeast is known for his elaborate challenges and stunts, his wedding proposal to his girlfriend Thea Booysen on Christmas Day was the opposite. In a conversation with People, the YouTuber shared why he chose to propose to his girlfriend in a "private and intimate" way and said:
"My friends thought I would want to propose in a very public way, like some sort of spectacle at the Super Bowl or somewhere else really big like that, but I knew that I wanted it to be the opposite, to be really private and intimate."
He proposed to her with a "beautiful" diamond engagement ring with a rose gold band with additional diamond embellishments on each side. Thea Booysen recalled to the outlet how the proposal had gone down, saying that her family flew out of South Africa for the holidays. She added:
"We were going to do Christmas in our house so both families were here. We were opening presents, and then for the very last present he asked me to close my eyes because it was a surprise."
MrBeast said that he dropped a large box to make some noise before giving her the real gift. He added:
"I went down on a knee and proposed."
Booysen "of course said yes" and was "extremely excited". MrBeast also shared how he wanted to include Booysen's family in the proposal knowing how close she is to them. So, when thinking of "the best way to catch her off guard," he thought that Christmas would be the perfect scenario since her family was present.
That said, it wasn't the first time the content creator expressed wanting to marry his girlfriend. He allegedly told her about wanting to marry her one year after they met, per People, but Booysen told him that he should propose after she graduated college. She finished her Master's degree in November 2024.
