MrBeast's reality show Beast Games premiered on December 19 on Amazon Prime Video. It features a massive $5 million cash prize and intense, high-stakes challenges. Currently, the first two episodes are out and by the end of the first episode, over half of the 1,000 contestants had been eliminated. Before the show’s release, all 1,000 participants had to pass a qualification round to secure their spots.
In a YouTube video released the same day his show aired, MrBeast showcased how 2,000 prospects battled it out for a chance to become part of the final 1,000 that appeared on the show. He said:
"What you are witnessing is just the start of something never before seen in history. 2,000 people are about to battle in a series of trials for a spot in my 10-episode Prime Video series called Beast Games."
The video, titled 2,000 People Fight For $5,000,000, involved a crowd of participants going through a series of trials to make it to the Amazon Prime show. Some of these trials included strength-based challenges, while others depended on pure luck.
MrBeast eliminates 1,000 contestants from the Beast Games qualifiers
To participate in MrBeast's Beast Games, applicants had to meet several eligibility criteria. They needed to be at least 18 years old and have a valid passport with validity extending through April 2025. To apply, candidates were required to submit a one-minute video addressing specific topics outlined on the official Beast Games website.
After the application process, the 2,000 selected appeared for the qualifiers at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and in the first challenge alone, 404 were eliminated. The first hurdle had groups of over 200 pulling a rope to lift a "10,000-pound" suspended rock.
Following this, a game of chance involved participants selecting a briefcase that said "safe" or "eliminated." The third challenge, like the first, was slightly more physical. Contestants had to race to grab flags scattered across the stadium.
Meanwhile, some contestants complained of an unsafe working environment during the qualifiers. Since several challenges were physically demanding, certain contestants were reportedly injured in the process. Additionally, it was alleged that the show was biased towards the athletically gifted.
These allegations, coupled with the class-action lawsuit the show faced, led to a controversial build-up.
The final challenge, however, took a more psychological turn. Contestants were divided into teams of 100 and confined to specific platforms. Adding to the tension, MrBeast introduced tempting bribes to lure teams, but if any team member left their platform, the entire team would be disqualified.
Ultimately, a poorly-timed decision from a certain player led to their entire team losing out, and by the end, 1,000 remained. With this, the final contestant roster for the Amazon Prime show was set.
Before the first challenge even started, MrBeast gave away $1 million on Beast Games.
