YouTube streamer Darren "IShowSpeed" has carved a niche for himself in the world of football. From opening packs on FIFA while streaming to attending the Ballon d'Or and shaking hands with some of the most high-profile ballers in today's scene, it's safe to say that the sport has become part of the streamer's brand. On a November 5 stream, Speed welcomed French footballer Paul Pogba.
Sporting a Manchester United jersey in honor of Pogba's former club, Speed lit up with excitement as the footballer stepped through the door, making an entry to the viral French song, Ramenez la coupe à la maison by Vegedream:
"My boy! Pogba! ('What's the chat saying?', questioned Pogba) What's the chat saying?! Paul Pogba's here!"
Since September 2023, Paul Pogba has made only off-pitch appearances, mainly because he is currently under an 18-month ban for using banned substances as supplements.
Pogba has denied knowingly taking the substance, claiming he has always adhered to anti-doping regulations. Nevertheless, the footballer maintains a presence outside sports, as evidenced by his appearance on IShowSpeed's stream.
Together, the two discussed football, spoke to viewers in the chatbox, and even kicked around a ball on an astroturf. In one instance, while speaking to fans on video chat, IShowSpeed classically barked at the footballer, completely throwing him off-guard.
"Messi's different": Paul Pogba speaks to IShowSpeed about Lionel Messi's skills
IShowSpeed is well-known for being a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, rather than Lionel Messi. His support for Ronaldo has been a major part of his online persona, and he frequently jokes about or downplays Messi’s achievements in comparison to Ronaldo’s.
Speed has even created content like songs and livestreams dedicated to Ronaldo and often imitates his celebration moves. His light-hearted rivalry with Messi fans has become a running joke in his community. Pogba, on the other hand, has only good to say about the footballer:
"You love Cristiano, I love [his] style and everything, and some people love Messi because bro, bro! Do you see what he's doing? Messi is different... How can a person so small, do this to people."
Speed went on to defend the Ronaldo case, comparing statistics:
"Has Messi ever scored a 40-yard deep free kick? ('No, but he's not this kind of player, that's what I'm saying. He doesn't need to do that.', replied Pogba.')"
In other news, YouTube's CEO personally presented IShowSpeed with his diamond play button to celebrate reaching 10 million subscribers.
