Controversial Twitch and Kick streamer Nickmercs (Nick Kolcheff) has announced his return to professional Apex Legends. In a stream on September 16, 2024, Nick revealed that he had finalized the squad and would be making a comeback to the pro scene.
Nickmercs parted ways from the Tripods earlier in February 2024 when the Apex Legends team with the trio including Deeds and Gents went their separate ways. Now, it seems he has assembled a brand new team comprising pro players Detox and Avexys.
Nickmercs seemed quite excited about competing professionally, and on the stream, stated how watching LCQ had inspired him to return to the pro scene:
"We have locked in our Apex squad. I told you that we were waiting on LCQ. Fun tournament to watch man. Really got me itching to get back in there. We are going to be playing competitive Apex with Detox and Avexys. 100% locked in."
"They're fighters": Nickmercs praises his new Apex Legends teammates and announces they will be competing in the upcoming BLGS
After announcing Detox and Avexys as his squad, Nickmercs praised the two players and noted how all of them used to play Gears of War:
"These are two players that we have played a lot against. Every one of our lobbies we'd meet, they are always around. They are like a POI, close by. They can fight, they are fighters, man. They're fighters, they're Gears of War players. I've known Avexys a long time, just getting to know Detox, but good dudes."
The streamer noted that he had always wanted to play with two other controller players:
"Three controller players man, perfect, just how I wanted it."
Continuing his conversation about getting to play with Avexys and Detox, Nickmercs stated how fortunate it was the stars had aligned for them to be on the same team:
"We both wanted to play with each other for a long time, you know? Sick about the opportunity to f**king get at after it man."
Nickmercs went on to divulge what the future looked like for the new team, revealing that they will be participating in the upcoming BLGS hosted by NiceWigg and GreekGod in October. According to him, this will serve as practice before they shoot for the pro leagues:
"The first thing on the agenda is going to be BLGS. It's like an open qualifier, you know? You just go, you do as good as you can do. It's going to be a lot of good practice, good reps. We are going to scrim from there and I think it depends on a lot of things and I can't really break it all down to you, but we could be in pro league. Or we would have to play in the pro league qualifiers."
The streamer then claimed that he did not care about his team qualifying, but was just excited to be there. Nickmercs also mentioned how they still hadn't come up with a name for the team and that he will be retiring the Tripods:
"Either way, I don't f**king care. I am excited to get back in there. We do need a name team. I just feel like we should retire the Tripods with me, G, and D. We will keep that there, anyway, we'll see. We are kind of thinking like Gears of War-esque, you know? And go from there."
Nickmercs seems to be leaning into his love for Gears of War that Detox and Avexys share and fans as he looks to find a name for their Apex Legends team.
