On June 11, 2024, Twitch and Kick star Nicholas "Nickmercs" garnered a lot of attention on social media after a 42-second video of him surfaced online. In the clip, the content creator was seen playing Elden Ring when he noticed a live viewer's comment about transgender people.
In response, the FaZe Clan co-owner stated that there was "no such thing as trans people." He remarked:
"'Nick, the transphobes are struggling against the trans...' There's no such thing as trans people. That's something that you created. So, have fun in your little dreamland, but that s**t is not even real."
The streamer continued:
"Let me bring it down for you, all right? P***s - dude. V****a - girl. Done! Don't come in here with f**king trans s**t, bruh! Ridiculous!"

This is not the first time Nickmercs has gone viral for his comments on the LGBTQ+ community. Last year, on June 9, 2023, the content creator commented on a confrontation involving an anti-LGBTQ+ group by saying that children should be "left alone." He later deleted the tweet. This prompted Activision to take action against him, removing his Operator bundle from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
YouTube streamer Timonthy "TimeTheTatman" expressed his support for Nickmercs, asking the first-person shooter to remove his Operator bundle as well.
Nickmercs addressed the controversy in a subsequent livestream, saying that the video "bothered" him. Claiming that he "didn't have any quarrels" with people on social media, the content creator said:
"The video bothered me. I just don't think it's any place for a teacher or a school, I don't think it's the place to speak about things like that. And it's not that I think it shouldn't be spoken about. If that's what you got from that Tweet, you're just wrong. I don't have any quarrels with anybody here, I don't have any quarrels with people on the internet."
The 33-year-old also asserted that his tweet "wasn't anti-gay." He added:
"It wasn't an anti-gay tweet. That wasn't what it was. If you have issues with me or if you have issues with that tweet, we can agree to disagree. That's fine, but if you think I hate you because you're a certain way, that's not the truth."
Nickmercs is among the most popular FPS streamers and content creators, having joined Twitch in 2010. The Detroit, Michigan native boasts over 6.7 million followers and averages 5,706 viewers per stream on the Amazon-owned platform.
