Popular YouTuber Tana Mongeau has addressed the community following the recent controversy involving her podcast's co-host, Brooke Schofield. On August 4, 2024, several old tweets by Brooke Schofield surfaced on X, with several netizens calling them "racist." One of the posts that garnered significant traction was dated July 14, 2013, in which Schofield wrote:
"Guarantee if (George) Zimmerman shot a white guy, this wouldn't even be a story. News flash, this wasn't a crime of racism, but it was self-defense."
In the 94th episode of the Cancelled with Tana Mongeau & Brooke Schofield podcast, Mongeau addressed the controversy and condemned the 27-year-old's old tweets. While describing the old social media updates as "f**ked up and horrific," Tana Mongeau said:
"As you guys can see, I am alone on this couch. Brooke is not here with us today and I want to be abundantly clear that that was my decision. We all saw the tweets, and they're f**ked up and they're horrific, and I'm saying that as a White person. Right? Like, I cannot even imagine being a Black non-fan or fan and reading those tweets."
The Las Vegas native believed that she had "no right" to forgive Brooke Schofield:
"I've made it very clear to Brooke as well that I condemn her for these tweets, and they're f**king horrible! And... I have no right to forgive her as a White person for the things that she said."
Tana Mongeau explains why she was "wrong" amid the Brooke Schofield "racist" tweets controversy
Continuing the conversation, Mongeau also explained why she was in the "wrong" regarding the controversy involving Brooke Schofield. Claiming that she wanted to be "open and honest" with her community, the 26-year-old expressed regret at the comment she made on Schofield's apology video:
"Before I get into a little of my thoughts on this, I'm also wrong in this situation, and I want to be open and honest with you guys about that. When Brooke made her first apology video, I commented on it and I said, 'We grew up bad, I love you.' And immediately regretted it so hard! Realized how f**king stupid it was for me to f**king say that! I'm going to beat myself up for that... forever, quite frankly."

Tana Mongeau further insinuated that she wouldn't be able to "forgive" Brooke Schofield:
"It's not my place as a White person to forgive her or add to the problem and further the narrative of White people forgiving other White people. And, it's not enough to just write these things off as, 'We grew up bad,' and I think that I learned that now. That shows me that I still have things to learn and unlearn."
On the other hand, Brooke Schofield addressed the community on August 6, 2024, after liking an Instagram post featuring Adin Ross and Donald Trump, claiming that her decision was "mindless."
