On January 13, 2025, Twitch streamer Thor "Pirate Software" addressed the ongoing drama in the World of Warcraft Hardcore guild, OnlyFangs, over his actions during a recent raid. The streamer claimed it was absurd to blame him for the deaths of two other guild members in the game and explained that he and his mods were getting death threats over the controversy.
The World of Warcraft community on Twitch has been mired in a controversy surrounding Pirate Software. Many have criticized the streamer for not helping other players during a Dire Maul dungeon raid, which resulted in two players losing level 60 characters. The streamer claimed people were trying to damage his reputation.
After explaining how things had gone down in the dungeon, Pirate Software claimed that the unfortunate incident was not the fault of one person but the entire group:
"Each person in this group made mistakes including myself. I have never once said I was perfect in my play nor that I was a god gamer. I'm just an ex-Blizzard employee that has played mage for a long time."
Pirate Software called out those criticizing only him for the deaths of two other players and noted how some people are "calling for his death or cancellation." He also criticized other Twitch streamers who were getting involved in the controversy:
"To pin that on a single person is absurd at best and if you're calling for death and cancellation over it you're too invested in this content in a very unhealthy way. If you're a creator engaging in this kind of behavior then eventually your content wave will end but the relationships you've sullied will be permanent. Hope it was worth it for you."
Pirate Software claims to have banned over 4,000 accounts across platforms for hate raids and death threats after the World of Warcraft Hardcore controversy
Pirate Software has seen widespread success over the last couple of years in the streaming space. He was nominated for two awards at the recent Streamer Awards and was in the running to be Streamer of the Year as well. While IShowSpeed won that honor, Thor bagged the League of the Own award.
The streamer was one of the many popular Twitch stars to participate in the OnlyFangs World of Warcraft Hardcore guild, which is currently being headed by Tyler1. The former GM Sodapoppin has also noted that Pirate Software had roached out during the controversial incident.
In the wake of the in-game death of two OnlyFangs guild members, Pirate Software faced a lot of criticism, and not all of it was civil. In the post on X where he addressed the situation, the Twitch streamer stated that his team has had to deal with 10-hour-long hate raids. He has also banned 4,000+ accounts for sending vitriolic messages that included death threats to the moderators:
"For those that don't understand why they will stay banned. We had a ten hour long hate-raid over it live on Twitch. We had to ban nearly 4,000 accounts across all platforms and our moderators received death threats regularly throughout it all."
The streamer, who said he received death threats, also claimed that some people tried to get him banned from places like Twitch, World of Warcraft, and the Hardcore OnlyFangs guild by spreading false stories about animal abuse:
"People called for me to be killed both in-game and out of game. They tried to get me banned from Twitch, the guild, and WoW. They tried to make disparaging comments about our ferret rescue or that we somehow hurt animals. They tried to spread rumors saying I was convicted of felonies and many other things."
That said, the streamer seems to have resolved to continue his OnlyFangs World of Warcraft Hardcore streams and concluded his long statement with a promise to go online on January 14:
"The internet hate machine will not defeat me or the community that supports me. See you in WoW Hardcore tomorrow."
This is not the first controversy to befall the OnlyFangs guild, with certain players having been accused of cheating in the past.
