An IRL stream of Jake “JakenBakeLIVE” was very nearly interrupted by tragedy, as a person in a white pickup truck almost drove over someone laying in the grass in Los Angeles. Although it does look like the person in the vehicle had a decent amount of space between them, it’s hard to tell if they realized the person was laying there or not.
Quite a few people in JakenBakeLIVE’s stream tried to point it out as it was happening, but the streamer didn’t appear to notice it. However, it did lead to responses in that stream chat, as well as on social media. One Redditor in the LiveStreamFails subReddit called it an “NPC moment”, likely due to the driver simply pushing through the grass without any regard for people around them:
“An actual real life NPC moment”
Some responses thought the driver simply didn’t see the person, while others gave a different perspective. It’s entirely possible the truck driver saw the person, realized they weren’t close enough to harm them, and drove through the grass anyway. Regardless of the reason, at least one response thought it was reckless and irresponsible of the driver to act in such a way.
Other Redditors felt like the driver, while not really close enough to cause harm, they weren’t far away from a tragic accident. u/nfs3freak likened it to someone driving close to people on the sidewalk.
What took place in the background of JakenBakeLIVE’s stream?
(Clip begins at 1:39:28)
IRL streamers have experienced near-crashes and collisions before, but more often than not, it’s the streamer nearly hitting someone else. In this case, JakenBakeLIVE was oblivious to it happening.
As JakenBakeLIVE was talking about his 10 shares of NVIDIA, a white truck, presumably belonging to a park employee, drove right through the grass of the local park the streamer was in. Meanwhile, a local was laying down in the grass, as the truck drove what looked like just a few feet away from the person’s head.
The person got up and walked after the truck for a few moments, which did not stop to engage the person they nearly hit. As this was happening, the streamer was mounting his camera and phone to his bike and preparing to cycle again. Although several chatters would bring up the occurrence behind him, he didn’t seem to notice any of the chatters bringing it up.
Vehicular related accidents aren’t new on livestreams, but thankfully nobody was hurt in this one. Other content creators haven’t been so fortunate, such as when Vegan Patriot was streaming while driving and allegedly hit a pedestrian.
