In the aftermath of Dr DisRespect's recent controversy involving allegedly inappropriate texts to a minor, Rogue Company has disabled the streamer's skin and Dr DisRespect's Arena from their game. The third-person team-based shooter announced that gamers who had bought the skin would get a refund on their official account on X.
In the post, Rogue Company stated that the refund will be in Rogue bucks, the in-game currency that can be used to buy other cosmetic items:
"Hey Rogue Company, we have disabled Dr. Disrespect content previously available on game. We will provide full Rogue Buck refunds to any impacted account this week."
This has caused a certain amount of backlash from people, with many expecting the game developers to refund the money instead of in-game currency.
"where’s my $40 , i have no need for Rogue bucks when you guys haven’t updated the game in over a year", wrote an X user
"We need Full refund not Rbucks wtf", complained another gamer
The in-game skin inspired by Dr DisRespect was added to Rogue Company in 2020 after he was banned from Twitch. A new game map called The Arena, which takes its name from the streamer's community, was also added to the game. Now it seems both will be disabled.
Rogue Company becomes the latest game developer to remove Dr DisRespect content since the controversy
Dr DisRespect's Twitch ban controversy rocked the streaming world last month after a former Twitch employee claimed that the streamer had engaged in sending sexual messages to a minor back in 2017, causing the company to terminate their contract and ban him from the platform.
Dr DisRespect was banned from Twitch back in 2020 for those unaware, and the reason for the indefinite suspension had not been revealed until June 2024. After the initial accusations by one former Twitch employee, several esports and gaming journalists came out citing multiple sources that corroborated the story with a Rolling Stone article claiming that the 42-year-old streamer knowingly sent explicit texts to a minor.
Since then multiple brands and entities have cut their ties with Dr DisRespect, including Midnight Society, a gaming studio that the streamer himself co-founded in 2021. The San Francisco 49ers have also terminated their relationship with the YouTuber, along with YouTube who demonetized his channel after the allegations came to light.
What's more, Rogue Company is not even the first gaming studio to announce that they are disabling content inspired by Dr DisRespect. According to reports, NBA 2K24 will also be removing the streamer's content from their game in an upcoming update.
