On December 20, 2024, while playing World of Warcraft on Twitch, Thomas "Sodapoppin" talked about the recent layoffs at OTK. The One True King streaming organization has reportedly laid off several staff members as per social media posts made hours before Thomas' stream, who happens to be a co-owner of the group after joining it in 2022.
While talking to Veibae on stream, Sodapoppin also explained that the layoffs had started causing issues inside OTK. The co-owner noted that the popular on-stream show Schooled has been canceled as a direct result:
"So a lot of people got laid off today at OTK, it's causing a lot of issues. So, Schooled is canceled until we kind of get things more in order and figured all of the things out."
"Everything is scrambled": Sodapoppin reacts to OTK layoffs
After explaining that one of OTK's popular events Schooled has been canceled due to the layoffs, Sodapoppin stated that he has no more details due to being busy with World of Warcraft.
"Everything is kind of scrambled at the moment, I'd imagine, I don't know. I am not the guy to give details. I am playing WOW full-time."
For context, Sodapoppin heads the popular World of Warcraft Hardcore guild OnlyFangs, with popular Twitch streamers such as Tyler1, Nmplol, and others joining the ranks over the last few weeks.
Since its formation in 2020, One True King has been at the forefront of Twitch streaming and boasts a cast of popular streamers such as Asmongold, Nmplol, Mizkif, Emiru, and more. The group was recently subject to a lot of controversy after one of the co-owners Asmongold got in trouble for his comments about the conflict in the Middle East.
Regardless, on December 20, several posts on X were made by people formerly affiliated with the One True King. In these posts, they either announced their departure from the organization or talked about having a diminished role going forward.
While X users such as @arsious, and @designbydylan spoke about being let go, OTK's social media manager Yung Jeff made a post talking about budget cuts happening at the organization. Jeff also mentioned that while he will be staying with the group, he will be "open to more social media side work" starting next year:
"Unfortunately, a lot of budget cuts happening at OTK today I will still be with OTK in some capacity, but in 2025 I'll be open to more social media side work (Podcasts, orgs, streamer projects, etc). I know too much about streamers & can farm twitter! My DMs will be open :)"
The news of the layoffs at One True King comes days after popular livestreamer Ludwig Ahgren announced that his company OffBrand was being shut down.
