Former Kick staff member Melissa "ItsMelissaDude" has shared her experience of working for the platform as well as Stake in a YouTube video. She stated that during a meeting, there was a discussion on how to get a "beloved Twitch streamer" who had been battling cancer over to the green platform to stream.
She further alleged that a strategy was put in place to try and "utilize" the streamer's cancer diagnosis as a bargaining chip to get her streaming on Twitch's rival platform.
Melissa has also made damning claims about the work culture in both companies' offices. These claims made by her in the video have since been covered by many big-time streamers, including Félix "xQc" and HasanAbi.
Talking about the "strategy" being allegedly employed to get the streamer struggling with cancer onboard, Melissa stated:
"The quote that I remember hearing was, 'We can get her on Kick, streaming Stake for a relatively low price because she probably thinks she's going to die soon, and she'll wanna leave more money for her family.'"
Ex-staffer ItsMelissaDude makes allegation of "hostile" working environment at Kick and Stake
Melissa has stated that her comments about the company resulted in her receiving a cease-and-desist order. In the YouTube video, she can be heard alleging that the brands hire individuals who are "completely okay with unethical behavior."
Melissa has also said that she had resigned from the company, contrary to claims allegedly made by the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of both the Green platform and Stake about her being "fired." She shared screenshots on X of both the letter sent by her as well as the confirmation she had received of her resignation.
In a separate post on X, she shared her resignation letter and a screenshot of the legal notice she had been served by EasyGo Solutions Pty Ltd., which is owned by Kick CEO and Stake co-founder Ed Craven, along with fellow co-founder Bijan Tehrani. Ed Craven has since responded to the allegations.
She further stated that the environment in the office was "extremely hostile," owing to a consistent "disrespect" of the beliefs and opinions of the staff members. She also alleged the usage of the homophobic "F-slur" and the "N-word" by members of the staff:
"Even so much as to walk past the socials room, the guys that run the, you know, Kick streaming and Kick community, and hear the "N-word" just dropped! Hard R! And I'm like, what is this office? They had the executive, like the upper management in the room. I was sort of just like, what did I just hear? I couldn't believe it."
Kick may be receiving major quality-of-life updates with the upcoming 2.0 update. As per details shared by co-founder TrainwrecksTV, the platform is ready to roll out a feature similar to Channel points on Twitch, which would allow various benefits for creators.
