On January 3, 2025, popular live streamer Michael "Shroud" announced a Twitch subathon titled Fragathon, which is slated to start on January 4 and last the whole month. In his announcement, Michael explained that ever since he lost his father to cancer last year, he has been looking to help those in similar situations. Hence, all the proceeds from the subathon will go to charity.

Shroud posted a video announcement on X, claiming that the Fragathon would be slightly different:

"You guys may have heard that I am doing a subathon. But this one is going to be a little bit different. Last year I lost my dad to cancer and ever since I have looking for ways I can support people who are going through similar situations. So, we came up with the Fragathon."

Shroud's Fragathon will use a frag counter to determine donations to charity

While subathons usually have a subscriber goal to fulfill, streamers have been using them for charity work for some time now. One example of this is Ironmouse's 2023 subathon, where the VTuber broke the Twitch subscriber record and raised money for the Immune Deficiency Fund.

While Shroud has not mentioned the charity to which he will be donating the proceeds, the streamer did explain why the subathon is titled Fragathon. As the name implies, it has to do with the number of frags the streamer racks up while playing shooters.

For the entire month starting January 4, Shroud will be playing shooters with a frag counter on the screen. This will directly influence how much money he donates to charity. The streamer explained how subscriptions during the month will affect the frag counter:

"For the entire month of January, I am going to be going live with a Frag counter. For each elimination on stream, one dollar is going to charity. Subs and donations are going to be increasing this multiplayer, making each frag more and more and more."

Shroud also revealed that he has invited other Twitch streamers to donate to the charity and participate in the subathon. Fragathon will also have IRL segments to raise money as well, with a LAN center created by the streamer for other creators to collaborate with:

"But I won't be alone. I am inviting all my friends to come by and donate frags in person at a LAN center I am building in my house. There's also going to be IRL events and challenges that will add to the counter when we are not gaming. In addition to the frag counter, a 100% of proceeds from the subs, donations and bits will be going to an amazing charity."

Shroud also gave a touching tribute to his father by including a clip of him talking in Polish at the end of the announcement.
