Esports veteran and popular Twitch streamer Michael "Shroud" has made bold claims about what Black Myth Wukong's possible failure to win the Game of the Year award could mean. During a livestream on August 22, 2024, Shroud conveyed his admiration for the title developed by Game Science, describing it as an "awesome" game:
"We still got to beat the game. Oh, that was f**king awesome! That was awesome! This game is awesome!"
The Canadian expressed reluctance to share his thoughts for fear of offending others but predicted that Black Myth Wukong would take home the Game of the Year award. He added that if the game failed to win this prestigious title, he would deem the awards ceremony "rigged":
"Dude, it... I don't want to say this because it might piss you off. But it's going to win Game of the Year. It's going to! 100%. 1,000%! It's going to. It has to! There's just, like, if it doesn't, it's rigged. Simply put."
When his live audience asked which games were competing for Game of the Year 2024, Shroud responded:
"'What's the competition?' (Warhammer 40,000:) Space Marine (2), but I doubt it. How is a Warhammer game going to win? I don't know... f**king Helldivers (2). Palword. I don't know. I think it clears hard! It's not going to get banned from awards. What?! Are you guys stupid? Come on!"

Asmongold recently said Black Myth Wukong is a 9 to 9.5 on a scale of 10
Shroud is not the only popular streamer to have praised Black Myth Wukong. On August 20, 2024, One True King (OTK) co-founder Zack "Asmongold" shared his first impressions of the action role-playing game, rating it 9 to 9.5 on a scale of 10.
While he was impressed with the game, Asmongold expressed a desire for Black Myth Wukong to be an open-world title that allowed players more exploration:
"It's an amazing game. Like... at this point, I think that it's a nine to a nine-point-five. And, the only reason that it's not higher is - I wish it had more open-world exploration because of how good the game is. And I feel like... I even feel dumb even saying that. I think it's at least a nine-point-five."
Black Myth Wukong was released on August 19, 2024, for the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows. As of writing, it has an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam, based on 264,424 player reviews.
