Esports veteran and popular Twitch streamer Michael "Shroud" has made bold claims about what Black Myth Wukong's possible failure to win the Game of the Year award could mean. During a livestream on August 22, 2024, Shroud conveyed his admiration for the title developed by Game Science, describing it as an "awesome" game:
"We still got to beat the game. Oh, that was f**king awesome! That was awesome! This game is awesome!"

Shroud is not the only popular streamer to have praised Black Myth Wukong. On August 20, 2024, One True King (OTK) co-founder Zack "Asmongold" shared his first impressions of the action role-playing game, rating it 9 to 9.5 on a scale of 10.
While he was impressed with the game, Asmongold expressed a desire for Black Myth Wukong to be an open-world title that allowed players more exploration:
"It's an amazing game. Like... at this point, I think that it's a nine to a nine-point-five. And, the only reason that it's not higher is - I wish it had more open-world exploration because of how good the game is. And I feel like... I even feel dumb even saying that.
