Right-wing personalities Andrew Tate and "Nicolas" Sneako have weighed in on the controversy surrounding Olympic boxer Imane Khelif after she won the women's event against her opponent, Italian Angela Carini, who quit just 46 seconds into the match. Carini cited severe nose pain as the reason behind her quitting.
The controversy is rooted in questions regarding Imane Khelif's gender. As claimed by the now-disbanded International Boxing Association's (IBA) president Umar Kremlev, a gender test allegedly found Khelif to have "XY chromosomes," which are typically found in the male body.
Discussing it in an X post, Andrew Tate labeled the incident as "karma" for individuals "crying" about the patriarchy and "pretending" to be capable of doing everything a man can do:
"TBH maybe this is Karma for chicks constantly crying about the patriarchy and pretending they can do everything a man can do. Girl boss your way out of this one. Igor the destroyer (she/her) is here to fight."
Meanwhile, in a post on X, Sneako labeled the fight as "domestic violence" in the presence of a referee. He stated:
"N***a won a gold medal for domestic violence with a referee. Transgenderism is so re***ded it's hilarious."
Who is Imane Khelif and what is the controversy surrounding her?
Imane Khelif is a boxer from Algeria who previously participated in the 2018 and the 2019 AIBA Women's Boxing Championships. She also took part in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Despite having such a decorated career, Imane Khelif had been barred from participating in the final of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship in 2023.
As per the initial claims, high levels of testosterone had apparently been found in her system. Later, as per the International Boxing Association (IBA), an unspecified DNA test seemingly found her to have the "XY chromosome."
However, Khelif's passport identity confirms her as a woman. Moreover, there is no evidence that the test conducted by the IBA scientifically proved her to be male.
With the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following different rules compared to the IBA, Khelif was cleared to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics. This eventually led to her controversial bout against Angela Carini, a boxer representing Italy.
Speculations regarding the validity of the test, Khelif's gender identity, and discussions regarding her participation in the women's events in the Olympics have been rife online, with many weighing in on the matter.
