One True King, or OTK, has issued a statement in response to the recent controversy involving Zack "Asmongold." For context, Asmongold found himself in hot water after a video in which he shared his opinions on Palestine and Gaza, went viral on social media platforms such as X, Reddit, and TikTok.
Here is one of the statements made by the Twitch streamer during his broadcast:
"They have genocide baked into Sharia law right now, so no, I am not going to cry a f**king river when people who have genocide that's baked into their laws are getting genocided. They are terrible people. It's not even a question. It's crazy that people don't see it that way. They'd be doing the same thing."
These remarks resulted in the 34-year-old receiving significant backlash from the online community, with content creator Ariana Jasmine accusing him of racism:
"This racist piece of s**t, Asmongold, went on Twitch livestream and said that Palestinian people are 'inferior,' 'they aren’t the same as us,' and they have an 'inferior culture.' TwitchSupport, why is he not banned?"
OTK addressed the controversy on October 17, 2024. According to the organization, Asmongold acknowledged that his comments were "disgusting and abhorrent." The Texas-based collective then denounced "all forms of discrimination and violence," stating:
"A few days ago, Zack (Asmongold) made some comments that, even in his own words, were disgusting and abhorrent. OTK denounces all forms of discrimination and violence, and that sort of behavior cannot be tolerated. Yesterday evening, we spoke with Zack and he will be stepping away from his roles at OTK and our affiliate companies Starforge, Mythic, and Mad Mushroom."
OTK claims Asmongold "vehemently expressed his desire to change his life and broaden his perspective"
After announcing that Asmongold was stepping down from his role at OTK and other related ventures, the organization claimed that the Twitch streamer "vehemently expressed his desire to change his life":
"In our conversation, Zack vehemently expressed his desire to change his life and broaden his perspective. Earlier today, he posted a video detailing his thoughts on his comments, along with the changes he plans on making moving forward."
While hoping that Asmongold "remains committed to the promises" made, OTK stated that they would "foster an open and inclusive work environment":
"We hope Zack remains committed to the promises he has made to us, the community, and to himself. In the meantime, OTK will continue fostering an open and inclusive work environment dedicated to producing the best livestreaming content possible for our community and partners."
Asmongold posted on his official subreddit earlier today (October 17, 2024), explaining why he decided to apologize in response to the recent controversy.
