Twitch streamer Quintin "Quin69" recently became the topic of discussion online after multiple clips emerged from his recent broadcast in which he took on a female VTuber avatar as a comedic bit. The streamer was playing Path of Exile 2 after replacing his traditional camera set-up with a motion capture-enabled VTuber setup.

Using a voice changer to complete the look, Quin69 was seen addressing viewers and introducing himself as a VTuber, stating:

"You guys have no idea. I am just a s*xy little VTuber, dude."

While it was unclear whether it was deliberate or not, Quin69 accidentally turned off his VTuber avatar and showcased himself to the audience. Seemingly caught off-guard, he exclaimed:

"What the f**k? What the f**k?"

The hilarious moment was posted on r/LivestreamFail and as a clip by @FearedBuck on X, both under the title, Vtuber's model glitches and reveals bald shirtless man. Some viewers were misled by the posts and believed it was an unknown streamer deliberately impersonating a female VTuber to gain attention:

"I'm never trusting Vtubers again," wrote X user @Grayyefn
"When the reveal is more like a reality check," wrote X user @StuckInTheZoner
"No way! This can't be real. There goes the donations bro." wrote X user @micahdevore

Although initially intended to be a joke, this sparked a wider discussion among audiences regarding the identities of VTubers:

"This def a joke, but it’s a real possibility that a lot of these Vtubers are scamming… " wrote X user @RomeoKojo
"Now i need to know who ironmouse is," wrote X user @officialvrewls

On the other hand, many users caught onto the bit by Quin69 and speculated that the action was a deliberate attempt at gaining virality:

"This feels staged af," wrote X user @Angelica_Reed1
"In this case you can definitely tell that it’s a voice changer," wrote X user @Gokuslittleguy
"Quin is a genius!" wrote X user @ItsCulby

What are VTubers? A brief on the rise of VTubers in the streaming scene

A VTuber, or a Virtual YouTuber, is a content creator who makes use of an animated avatar to provide a physical representation of themselves to viewers instead of using a camera to show their real face. Often, these avatars are enabled with special technologies that allow the expression of emotion, added-on effects, cloth physics, and other modifications.

One of the first VTubers was a creator named Ami Yamato on YouTube in 2011. While VTubing is not a new phenomenon, it gained prominence in streaming circles online from around 2020. One of the creators credited with making VTubing mainstream is Kizuna AI. Many VTubers have appeared on the scene since, including Gawr Gura, Ironmouse, and Houshou Marine.

Ironmouse is one of the most prominent English-speaking VTubers on Twitch, known for holding the previous record for the most subscribed VTuber of all time on the platform. She garnered 313,000 subscribers as part of her subathon in October 2024, but her record was broken by Kai Cenat in November 2024.
