Twitch streamer Zack "Asmongold" recently discussed the controversy surrounding video game publisher Ubisoft's decision to delay the release of the newest installment of its signature Assassin's Creed series. Now, the publisher has decided to launch Assassin's Creed: Shadows, which is a game based on Japanese history and culture, on the day of the 30th anniversary of the Tokyo subway sarin attack.
To those unaware, the Tokyo subway sarin attack was a domestic terrorist attack that took place on March 20, 1995, and made use of Sarin, an extremely toxic nerve gas that is colorless and odorless.
Talking about Ubisoft's contentious decision for the new launch date of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Asmongold said:
"I don't believe it... Thirtieth anniversary. They just can't stop. It's so f**king funny that so many of these coincidences are happening. Especially... this is like obviously like a virtue signal-type company. It would be really funny if people started making videos and talking about the fact that they want to release it on this day, just so they could celebrate a black person killing Japanese people because its the anniversary of a terrorist attack in Japan. This would be f**king hilarious."
Asmongold discusses previous contentious acts by Ubisoft after announcement of new release date for Assassin's Creed: Shadows
While initially talking about the matter during a broadcast on Twitch, Asmongold uploaded a video on his YouTube channel, Asmongold Clips, titled Ubisoft is actually r***rded... Therein, he also gave the context of his previous coverage of Ubisoft's contentious decisions concerning the promotion of Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
Previously, Asmongold had made a comparison between the sword of Yasuke, the main character of the upcoming game, and the sword used by Zoro from the anime series, One Piece. Further, promotional material related to the game was sent to Japanese streamers, however, it featured supposed Japanese symbols that were not comprehendible by native Japanese speakers.
As per Asmongold, Assassin's Creed: Shadows also features Japanese national treasures as in-game assets — these are generally not allowed for commercial use without authorization. On the other side, Ubisoft also supposedly made use of a World War 2 remnant, the Sannō Shrine, as a promotional asset for the game.
Popular for his commentary on online and offline controversies and drama, Asmongold is known for maintaining an atypically unhygienic lifestyle. Recently, the streamer discussed how he had started suffering from breathing issues due to his continuously using moldy pillows for two years straight.
