YouTuber Max Major has spoken up about the controversy surrounding his stunt during Kai Cenat's Mafiathon 2 subathon. On November 27, 2024, a video showing Kai Cenat "hanging" Max Major went viral on social media. The magician eventually disclosed that the stunt was a pre-planned performance, adding that everything that happened was "all according to his plan."

However, Cenat was dissatisfied with Major's antics, calling the magician "selfish" for his actions. Furthermore, many netizens speculated that the two-time Streamer of the Year award winner could face a ban as a result of the controversial stunt.

On December 11, 2024, Max Major released a statement on X, claiming that he "did not lie to" Kai Cenat's team. While stating that the stunt was "not an attempt" to get the New Yorker banned from the Amazon-owned platform, the YouTuber wrote:

"I did not lie to Kai's team about the stunt I was going to perform on Mafiathon 2 and this was not an attempt to get him banned. The stunt was coordinated with his team and cleared with Twitch. Before I even started preparing for this, the very first thing I did was ensure it wouldn't jeopardize his channel or risk a ban.

Additionally, Max Major stated that he had "multiple conversations" with Cenat's Twitch manager, explaining that the streamer's team was aware of the stunt:

"I had multiple conversations with his Twitch manager over text and phone. Members of Kai's team and Twitch were fully aware of the nature of the stunt, including: That a gallows would be constructed. A noose would be placed around my neck. I would be pulled up into the air/hanged. The rope would be cut. I would fall into a pile of boxes. People would believe I was seriously injured. And that it would be revealed as a prank."

Max Major hopes to reconnect with Kai Cenat after his controversial stunt during Mafiathon 2

In his social media post, Max Major also stated that the stunt he performed at Mafiathon 2 "took weeks of meticulous planning and training" and was not something he decided to do "last minute."

Claiming that Twitch was "aware" of the situation, Major wrote:

"To be crystal clear, this wasn't something I decided to do last minute - this took weeks of meticulous planning and training. Twitch was aware of the stunt and after running it by the higher-ups, simply asked that we put 'professional stunt, do not attempt' on the screen."

Max Major also stated that the stunt "wasn't designed to destroy" Kai Cenat and expressed hope to reconnect with the Twitch streamer "someday":

"I understand people are reacting in ways I didn't anticipate, and I respect that everyone's entitled to their opinions about the stunt itself. But this wasn't designed to destroy Kai and I didn't lie about the nature of the final stunt I was going to perform. I've sent the same details above directly to Kai and he hasn't responded. Hope that we're able to reconnect some day."

As of this writing, Kai Cenat has not responded to Max Major's statement.
