Controversial political streamer Destiny (whose real name is Steven Bonnell) and his fellow podcast host Dan have shared posts on social media claiming that Twitch has blocked Israelis from creating accounts on the platform. This comes days after H3 podcast host Ethan Klein called the CEO of the website Dan Clancy anti-Semite for unbanning content creators like Sneako and Fresh and Fit despite their controversial takes on the Holocaust.
In a post on X dated October 20, 2024, Destiny shared a screenshot of an email from Twitch support, and in the captions, expressed his disbelief about Israelis supposedly not being able to create accounts on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
The Kick streamer, who is currently banned from Twitch, wrote:
"wait lol okay so I assumed honestly it was just an error or something, is it seriously Twitch policy to block Israeli's from making accounts?????? this HAS to be a mistake, no??????"
Destiny's podcast co-host Dan alleges Twitch has been blocking Israelis from creating accounts since last year
On October 20, 2024, Destiny's co-host on the Anything Else? podcast, Dan (@dancantstream on X), made a post alleging that he had verified with multiple "first-hand" sources that Twitch has been blocking people living in Israel from creating accounts on the website.
In the post, @dancantstream writes that the apparent ban has been going on since November 2023:
"I am about at 99% confidence of this now- I have heard from multiple sources that this is a real, actual ban of Israel. Anyone inside of Israel is unable to create a new account on Twitch. The ban went into effect in early November."
"I have confirmed at least first hand, with several people I know PERSONALLY to live in israel, that they can not create accounts and receive a "banned country" error."
Dan and Destiny have been quite critical of some Twitch streamers like Fr0gan for their recent controversies with people like Ethan Klein calling her an anti-Semite. Regardless, it seems that Dan is now calling out the whole platform, claiming that they have deliberately blocked one nation with their code:
"I have heard from others that this is an intentional act by Twitch. This isnt some sideeffect of banning vpns or trying to stop bots. Its code that has been put in place specifically to ban Israel."
He also tagged Twitch CEO Dan Clancy after speculating about what Twitch's defense could be:
"Im sure twitch will try to defend this with "Yes, we banned Israel but we also banned Gaza !! " (like they have a functional fucking ISP right now, give me a break) @djclancy999 You shall reap what you have sown."
Neither Twitch nor Dan Clancy has addressed these claims yet, and readers should note that the allegations are anecdotal at this point.
In related news, the platform recently banned live streamer Asmongold for sharing his views on Palestinian culture which caused a lot of controversy on social media.
