Twitch content creator Maya Higa's sanctuary, named the Alveus Sanctuary, received a massive donation from Twitch at TwitchCon 2024. The streamer was given the news while she was on stage during the event's opening ceremony alongside the platform's Head of Community, Mary "merrykish."
While up on stage and addressing Maya directly, Merrykish stated:
"It's really cool that Maya actually constructed this sanctuary and does a lot of it through Twitch. We're really proud of your work and so Twitch wants to help you grow your sanctuary, and so Twitch will be donating $100,000 to Alveus Sanctuary! Congratulations!"

Maya Higa founded the Alveus Sanctuary back in February 2021. The non-profit organization not only serves as a safe haven for non-releasable animals, who serve as ambassadors of the Sanctuary but also as a virtual education center facility.
Those who are interested in following these animals' journeys can get to know them better through the official Alveus website and also live on both Twitch and YouTube. Its current animal ambassadors include a bulldog frog named Georgie, a Blue and Gold Macaw named Tico, an Emu named Stompy, and an African Gray parrot named Mia, among many other animals.
After receiving the news that her sanctuary had just been awarded a huge sum of money, Maya went up to Merrykish and hugged her. Further, Maya could be seen visibly tearing up out of sheer joy, which prompted the crowd to cheer for the content creator. She could then be heard saying:
"They didn't tell me that!"
Maya Higa had opened up regarding her horrifying experience with a stalker earlier this year. She stated that the incident took place three years ago, but was significant enough for her to leave her home for a month. One fan had developed a parasocial relationship with her, believing that the pair were a couple and took everything she said or posted as "hints" to their relationship together.
