The Twitch Recap is an annual tradition that celebrates and reflects on the year's activity across the Twitch platform. Typically released in December, the recap provides users with a personalized summary of their involvement, whether as a viewer, streamer, or both. It's a highlight reel of statistics, showcasing metrics such as total hours watched, favorite streamers, and most-watched categories.

Readers can access their personalized recaps here, to review statistics like hours watched, chats sent, most viewed channels, and even top emotes used. Twitch users also can share these statistics.

The recap can also be found on the website's home page, where a prompt links users to their recap.

The Twitch Recap features multiple "types" depending on the engagement a user provides to the platform. For example, if a Twitch user has less than 10 watch hours, they qualify to be a "community" member rather than a "viewer" or "streamer".

Twitch Recap 2024: A breakdown

For viewers, the Twitch Recap is a nostalgic journey through the moments that kept them entertained, while for steamers, it offers a glimpse into their growth over the year, including hours streamed, total views, chat engagement, and subscriber milestones.

Streamers get to see their new followers, total hours watched, new subscribers, their top categories, number of streams, chats sent, clips and their number one community emote.

In 2024, Twitch remained the leading platform in the live-streaming industry, with over 212 million hours streamed and approximately 5.14 billion hours watched in Q3 alone. The platform accounted for 82% of all live-streaming hours, dominating its competitors like YouTube Gaming and Kick.

Viewer engagement was bolstered by esports tournaments, community-driven content, and major trends like the resurgence of interactive categories such as "Just Chatting," which consistently led to increasing watch hours. Popular games like Grand Theft Auto V, League of Legends, and Escape from Tarkov also saw strong performance, fueled by events and special campaigns.

Twitch continued to innovate in 2024, hosting large-scale events and collaborations, such as Kai Cenat’s record-breaking Mafiathon 2 stream, attracting over 600,000 concurrent viewers at times. Despite its dominance, Twitch faces growing competition from rivals investing in exclusive contracts and new technologies.
