Japanese-Canadian content creator Kyedae has issued an apology on X after her comments regarding pollution in China. As per her posts, she had to return home from Korea after becoming ill and made remarks stating that her sickness may have been caused due to "Chinese pollution" blowing over to Korea.
Subsequently. she started receiving backlash from a section of the Chinese community on X, in the form of replies to her posts on the platform. Addressing the controversy that emerged from her remarks, she stated:
"In a recent live stream I was explaining the reason why I flew back home from Korea. I explained that I was sick and wanted to prioritize my health. I stated 'I think it may have been the Chinese pollution that blows over to Korea'. I have since received a lot of messages from the Chinese community regarding this."

Kyedae is a former member of the American gaming organization 100 Thieves and is known for creating content revolving around the competitive FPS shooter, Valorant. She holds substantial influence in the Valorant community, holding over 3 million Twitch followers and 1.39 million subscribers on YouTube.
The 22-year-old's apology on X has attained over 1 million views since it was posted on August 19, 2024. In it, she called her comment "unnecessary" and stated that she understood how it could be perceived as "disrespectful" by her Chinese viewers:
"I’d like to apologize for my comment and how that could hurt people’s feelings. It was an extremely unnecessary comment and I can see how it can come off as disrespectful and distasteful."
She also clarified that she was not trying to disparage China, and pledged to be "more mindful" of the statements she makes during her broadcasts:
"In no way was I trying paint China in a bad light. Again I apologize to anyone this affected and will make sure that going forward, I am more mindful with what I say on stream."
In a subsequent post, Kyedae also stated that comments did not reflect the opinion of her fiance, Vietnamese-Canadian Valorant professional Tyson "TenZ". She stated:
"...Again I take full accountability of what I said and in no way should this affect your guys’ image of Tyson. My words are mine and his are his."
Kyedae announced her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which is a type of cancer in March 2023. She has been undergoing medical procedures for treatment since. Although she has returned to streaming regularly and is off chemotherapy, she is still undergoing medical treatment.
