Twitch streamer Macaiyla has put out a statement apologizing for her recent remarks about the transgender community and female Algerian Olympics boxer Imane Khelif. For context, misinformation about Khelif being transgender has become one of the biggest controversies of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Macaiyla had put out an X post on August 1, 2024, where she commented on the Olympics boxing controversy and insinuated that Imane Khelif should not play in the women's category. She also insinuated that both she and her partner, popular League of Legends player Tyler1, did not like transgender individuals.

On August 2, 2024, Macaiyla posted an apology on her official X account and took back her prior statements, which have since been deleted. The content creator took the blame for spreading misinformation about Imane Khelif and apologized to the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, claiming she was ignorant.

The opening statements of her apology read:

"I would like to start off by saying that I apologize to not only the trans community but all of the LGBTQ+ supporters for my comments. I apologize for the misinformation that I put out. I also apologize for the hate that I put it out. I was speaking out of a place of ignorance and carelessness."

Various controversial streamers, such as Sneako and Andrew Tate, were on the frontlines of the online backlash after Imane Khelif won her bout against her Italian competitor, Angelina Carini, in the Olympics. Carini forfeited the match within a minute. This sparked a lot of outcry from misinformed people who claimed that Khelif was a transgender woman.

The backlash stemmed from the fact that Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. At the time, International Boxing Association (IBA) president Umar Kremlev alleged that Khelif had XY chromosomes based on DNA tests.

Several online posts erroneously calling Khelif transgender started going viral online.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has condemned the hateful comments against Imane Khelif, reiterating that the boxer passed all of the regulatory tests. They added that the IBA's decision has no bearing on the matter as the Olympics does not recognize it as a governing body.

Amid the controversy, Macaiyla showed support for Donald Trump in a now-deleted reply to X user @EndWokeness:

"We may have to vote Trump to prevent more stuff like this from happening I hate to say it."

Macaiyla proceeded to call out another X user who had the transgender pride flag on their profile. The Twitch streamer even said her boyfriend Tyler1, with whom she has a child, also dislikes "people" like them, stating:

"He(Tyler1) doesn't like you people (seemingly referring to the transgender community) either"

After deleting her controversial posts on X, Macaiyla apologized to Tyler1 for speaking on his behalf:

"I would also like to apologize to Tyler for speaking on his behalf out of pure ignorance and heat of the moment. It's wrong of me to want to spread hate through someone else's mouth especially when their opinions extremely differ from opinions of my own."

Macaiyla was not the only Twitch streamer to comment about Imane Khelif. Popular Just Chatting content creator xQc recently stated that allowing athletes like Khelif in the women's category puts other participants in harm's way.
