On August 29, 2024, Twitch star Imane "Pokimane" took to X to open up about her relationship with social media. In the post, the Moroccan-Canadian personality stated that she missed posting content regularly and "feeling more connected" to her community. The 28-year-old then claimed that her relationship with social media was "complicated" and that she frequently felt the "need to step back."
Pokimane wrote:
"Honestly, I miss posting consistently and feeling more connected to my community. My relationship with social media is complicated, and I often feel the need to step back, but I hope to get back to being more comfortable online."
The content creator's post has garnered significant traction, eliciting responses from hundreds of netizens. Popular IRL Twitch streamer Jake "JakenBakeLIVE" concurred with her sentiments, claiming that X is "definitely the worst" social media platform.
"I feel you, but Twitter is definitely the worst of them all nowadays," responded JakenBakeLIVE.
Twitch streamer Rhymestyle also shared his thoughts on being away from social media.
"It's so cleansing being off it though. I had the app deleted from my phone for like two months now. Temporarily downloaded for upcoming travel again but after that, getting nuked off my devices. It's refreshing," commented Rhymestyle.
According to X user @mercuriru, Pokimake shouldn't feel the need to be "super engaging" with her online community:
"You don't have to feel like you need to be super engaging, I feel like sharing whenever you feel like posting something also makes it less pressuring on you take care, always happy to see your post and hope you can feel more comfy to post more, too," said @mercuriru.
Not the first time Pokimane has spoken about stepping back from social media this year
This is not the first time Pokimane has spoken about stepping back from social media this year. In July 2024, the OfflineTV (OTV) co-founder posted an update on her official X Community, pokitwt, stating that she had landed in Canada for her brother's engagement.
While telling her fanbase to take care of themselves, the Twitch streamer announced a hiatus from the internet and "especially" from the Elon Musk-owned social media platform:
"Landed in Canada. I'm going to take a lil break (especially from Twitter, lol), and celebrate my brother's engagement. Take care of yourselves, I'll vlog my trip & see you soon!
Pokimane is among the most popular figures in the livestreaming sphere, becoming the first female Twitch personality to reach nine million followers in 2022.
