US Congressman Ritchie Torres, who serves New York's 15th District, has labeled Twitch streamer Hasan "HasanAbi" as an "apologist for the sexual violence of October 7th (2023)." Ritchie Torres shared a 17-second video from HasanAbi's old livestream, during which the Turkish-American personality was heard saying the following:
"Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter if f**king rapes happened on October 7th. Like, it doesn't change the dynamic for me even this much. So, that's the other part of this problem that many people that can't contend with. Like... the Palestinian resistance is not perfect."
Sharing his thoughts on the Twitch political commentator's statements, Ritchie Torres remarked:
"The leading streamer on Twitch, Hasan Piker, is an apologist for the sexual violence of October 7th. 'It doesn't matter if rape happened on October 7th. It doesn't change the dynamic for me,' Hasan declares before finally admitting that, 'Palestinian resistance is not perfect.'"
Furthermore, the US Congressman seemed to accuse HasanAbi of "openly defending the rape and mass murder of Jews." He added:
"A social media influencer who openly defends the rape and mass murder of Jews is not only accepted but celebrated in our society. What does that reveal about the depth of antisemitism in the American soul? If America believes Jewish lives matter, then Americans should stop popularizing influencers who popularize antisemitism."
"Not too surprising" - Destiny responds to US Congressman Ritchie Torres' tweet in which the latter called out HasanAbi
Controversial Kick streamer and YouTuber Steven "Destiny" has responded to Ritchie Torres' social media post mentioned above. The Nebraska native claimed that the situation was "not too surprising," and brought up the recent Twitch controversy.
For context, Twitch made headlines on October 21, 2024, after allegations that they prevented Israelis from creating accounts surfaced on social media.
The Amazon-owned platform eventually responded, stating that they had "temporarily disabled" sign-ups for Israelis and Palestinians following the incident that occurred on October 7, 2023. Furthermore, Twitch admitted that they "did not re-enable" sign-ups in either region.
In response to the US Congressman's tweet, Destiny wrote:
"Not too surprising, given that Twitch had banned accounts from being created from Israel for a year after the October 7th attacks."
As of this writing, HasanAbi has yet to respond to Ritchie Torres' most recent tweet.
