Matthew "Nadeshot" is the founder and CEO of the entertainment, gaming, and apparel brand 100 Thieves, based in Los Angeles, California. Before his journey with 100 Thieves, Nadeshot was a professional Call of Duty Player for OpTic Gaming. Together with the team, he was able to clinch several championships, including a gold medal at the 2014 X Games.
Nadeshot still actively games and streams on Twitch, where he plays mostly plays Valorant. First-person shooters have always been Matthew's forte, having led OpTic Gaming to multiple top finishes in major tournaments. Recently, he was defeated by FaZe CEO Richard "Banks" in a friendly 1v1 between Faze and 100 Thieves.
Nadeshot shared a few thoughts about the gaming community in a recent Twitch stream and how it might be a downward spiral if people in the community keep up their behavior regarding games, especially new releases.
"There's something weird that has happened in the gaming community, I'm serious too when I say this. For some reason, everybody in the gaming community wants games to fail. It's very bizarre."
Nadeshot also had some thoughts on what this sort of behavior would mean for the future of games and development studios.
The gaming community won't have "sh*t to fu**ing play"—Nadeshot speaks on the current attitude of video game fans
In the clip, Matthew expressed that gamers nowadays do not give new releases enough of a chance. He believes that they criticize a game way too soon, even before they have had a chance to play it themselves.
"People complain about not having games to play, but when new games come out, even before they have played it, they're like 'that game sucks, I'm not going to play it'."
Nadeshot expressed concern about the negativity surrounding the gaming community, particularly the tendency to harshly criticize studios before their products are even released. He said that while not every game will be a hit, continuously tearing down studios can have negative effects on the industry.
It would make sense for Nadeshot to speak from a video game creator perspective since he announced a game produced by 100 Thieves back in 2022. The game is titled Project X, and is a "community-driven video game."
He urged the community to be more supportive, as this negativity could ultimately lead to the downfall of game development efforts.
"Nobody's going to be investing in gaming and making new games and you're not going to have sh*t to fu**ing play. You're going to be sitting here playing MW2 remastered edition. You're going to be sitting here trying to play the same old games [a] thousand times."
Overall, Nadeshot urged gamers to be more open to new video game releases, claiming that major developers would be hesitant to release games if they received immediate backlash from the community.
