YouTube creator Niko Omilana has just come out with a documentary on Netflix that depicts his journey to participating in the 2021 London Mayor Elections as an independent candidate. It's worth noting that in 2018, this creator started his own group called the Niko Defense League to stand against the far-right English organization, the English Defense League.
The creator not only actively participated in the 2021 elections, but attained more than 49,628 votes during his campaign, successfully leaving behind many other independent candidates, such as British personality Piers Corbyn and actor Laurence Fox.

Beta Squad member Niko Omilana is a well-established figure among British YouTubers, with him having more than 7.5 million subscribers on the video-hosting platform. On X, the creator holds over 1 million followers. Thus, based on his influential online persona, it is no surprise that he stood fifth overall in the 2021 London Mayor elections, holding 2% of the total votes cast.
Fans have expressed their excitement after the announcement of his Netflix documentary, with X user @DelvauxOvaC saying:
"We love to see it."
Another X user, @freeverycountry, stated that the creator was a "legend" and deserved the opportunity to be on Netflix, writing:
"Bros a living legend. He deserves it."
However, not everyone was supportive of the documentary being released. Some believe that the creator is relatively unknown and that the documentary will, therefore, go unwatched.
"I have never heard of him. And he has a Netflix documentary that most people, won’t watch," wrote X user @dogmah74.
YouTubers in politics: Recalling when Fidias Panayiotou won a seat in the 2024 EU Parliament elections
Fidias Panayiotou, a YouTuber from Cyprus, won a seat in the EU 2024 parliament held in June 2024. Subsequently, he became a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). Similar to Niko Omilana, Fidias was not affiliated with any party and was an independent candidate. The creator now represents his home country of Cyprus in the parliament.
He had initially gained popularity for creating content similar to MrBeast's, undertaking various challenges as part of his YouTube videos. He also gained prominence on the platform for his campaign to meet and hug Elon Musk, which he was able to do in January 2023.
Niko Omilana also tried to participate in the UK general elections earlier this July (2024), standing against ex-UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. However, he lost after obtaining a total of 160 votes.
