YouTube megastar Jimmy "MrBeast" has found himself amidst a series of controversies in 2024. From allegations of unsafe working environments to claims of employee mistreatment, he's been under public scrutiny for a long time. Jimmy has transformed his YouTube career from an independent content creator, making videos at his desk, to owning his own company, which evolved from his channel.

Shawn Hendrix, an employee of MrBeast, has appeared in several of the latter's videos, including challenges like "7 Days Stranded on an Island" and "7 Days Stranded In A Cave". His participation in these intense challenges has made him a recognizable face among MrBeast's audience. In a recent X post, Shawn mentioned a scam going around, involving scammers posing as the hiring team and charging money to appear in MrBeast videos:

"The Beast team will never ask our subscribers or contestants for money to participate in videos!"

Since MrBeast is realistically a corporation now, spanning multiple employees working on sets and morphing Jimmy's ideas into real-life projects, there is a hiring process to onboard talent for videos, editing, human resources, or even dubbing (since the channel's videos are available in over ten languages).

As of 2023, Jimmy employs more than 250 staff members, including writers, editors, and producers.

Scammers use MrBeast's name, tricking unsuspecting applicants for their money

MrBeast's show, Beast Games, in collaboration with Amazon, has been under scrutiny recently for several controversies. As of this writing, applications for the show are closed. Before this, interested applicants would visit beastgames.com to apply for a chance to participate, for free. Ultimately, a thousand contestants are expected to participate in the show.

In his cautionary X post, Shawn mentioned:

"Heads-up that if you've received an email from [email protected] asking for payment and personal information in order to participate in casting for Beast Games, our Youtube channel or anything else related to MrBeast, it's a scam!"

The post also states that MrBeast's team is actively trying to get to the bottom of this fraud and figure out where these scams are coming from.

While MrBeast is known for his philanthropic and engaging content, there have been claims that working with him was less than ideal. Some collaborators have reported that the fast-paced and high-pressure environment of his projects can be stressful. YouTuber Ty Ore spoke about his time working with MrBeast and called him a "thief".
