On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Berwyn police fatally shot a 24-year-old man identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as John R. Lyons.

According to Times Now News, Lyons was suspected of killing three people and two dogs in Mahomet on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. He was later seen on the doorstep of far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes in what is being described as an alleged assassination attempt.

John R. Lyons's connection to the Mahomet triple homicide case involved the fatal shootings of Sara Mason, 26, and Janis L. Mason, 61. Both victims were confirmed to have died from gunshot wounds, although the motive behind the killings remains unclear.

As per Berwyn Police Department, the prime suspect, John, referred to as the "subject," was seen forcing entry into a residence and disobeying the verbal commands of the officers when he was gunned down.

"The subject then forced entry into a residence…where he fatally shot two dogs. Officers then observed the offender fleeing eastbound into a yard… the suspect disobeyed the officers' verbal commands to stop and proceeded to shoot at police officers," Berwyn Police said.

According to the Times of India, at approximately 11:40 p.m. on December 19, 2024, police received a call about an armed man near Nick Fuentes' residence who was attempting to force entry. The individual was later identified as John R. Lyons.

Following the incident, Fuentes shared footage from his doorbell camera on his X account, showing Lyons carrying a firearm and a crossbow while dressed in a blue jacket, brown pants, and a helmet. Fuentes wrote that an attempt had been made on his life.

"The killer parked his car in front of my house and approached my door with his pistol drawn and what appears to be a crossbow. I was live streaming at the time. He rings the door bell, tries the doorknob and yells "yo, Nick!" he wrote.

In a separate tweet on X, Fuentes stated that the armed individual had made an attempt on his life at his home but reassured his followers that he was unharmed, as the suspect had been neutralized.

"Last night an armed killer made an attempt on my life at my home, which was recently doxed on this platform. The gunman carried a pistol, crossbow, and incendiary devices. I believe he intended to kill me. He is now dead. I am okay!" Fuentes wrote.

In a subsequent series of tweets, Fuentes described the event as a "would-be assassin" attempt, crediting the Berwyn police for their intervention and expressing gratitude for his safety.

No additional information has been released regarding John R. Lyons' family, personal history, or background at this time.
