The filming of Beast Games (an upcoming offering by MrBeast and Amazon Prime) began at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The massive 65,000-seat venue served as the backdrop for the initial qualifying rounds, where 2,000 contestants battled to secure their spot in the main competition. The stadium was rented for four consecutive days, from July 18 to July 21, 2024.
After the qualifiers, production moved to Toronto, Canada, where a custom-built set was constructed at an abandoned site near Downsview Airport. This elaborate location resembled a small town, complete with houses, parks, and even a basketball court. The set, surrounded by a large red wall and moat, was designed to immerse contestants fully in the competition.
Looking at MrBeast's $14 million gameshow set for Beast Games
Building the set in Canada cost $14 million out of the show’s $100 million budget. Filming in Toronto spanned at least 16 days in late August and early September 2024, during which the area was designated a no-fly zone.
The objective behind this extravagant expenditure was to create living quarters for the Beast Games contestants, that simultaneously worked as a set for the game show. MrBeast touched on this in a recent X post:
"We spent $14,000,000 building a city in a field for the contestants in Beast Games to live and compete in.. December 19th is almost here."
Under his post revealing the set's cost, X user @LUTHERLMS asked the YouTuber how he plans to "recover" his money, or break even on this sort of spending. In response, MrBeast claimed his focus was on making high-quality content, rather than aiming to make his money back.
"The goal is to make the best content possible not make money."
The total budget for Beast Games was a staggering $100 million. This makes it one of the most expensive reality TV shows ever produced.
That being said, the show has not developed without controversy. Allegations of mistreatment — including inadequate food and medical care for contestants — emerged during the Las Vegas shoot. Similar issues reportedly affected crew members in Toronto, as per complaints about delayed payments and insufficient heating and cooling facilities.
In other news, a Cristiano Ronaldo fan managed to defeat the football legend in a challenge featured in MrBeast's latest video, earning a prize of $1 million.
