On July 17, 2024, Steven "Destiny," a well-known political commentator and livestreamer, got banned for the first time on Kick. For those unaware, the content creator joined the Stake-backed platform last year (on March 19, 2023), when he announced that he had signed a "three-month probationary" contract. Since then, the Nebraska native has been regularly broadcasting on the platform.
On July 17, 2024, netizens on X reported that Destiny's Kick channel was inaccessible. This resulted in numerous people to speculate that the streamer got barred from the platform for making contentious comments about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Providing details about the controversy, X user @FearedBuck posted:
"After being demonetized on X (a) few days ago, Kick has banned Destiny for continuously making fun of (an) innocent firefighter who got killed at the Pennsylvania rally."
Destiny eventually revealed that he had been temporarily banned from Kick due to "hate speech." An official email from the platform provided the following information:
"Hey Destiny, your account has been temporarily suspended due to a breach of terms of service. Reason - Hate Speech. This suspension will expire (on) 2024-07-31 (at) 01:29:41."
Commenting on his Kick ban, the 35-year-old posted:
"Never apologizing for the way I treat conservas**ts in this country."
"You're pushing an issue too far" - Netizens react to Destiny revealing the reason for his first Kick ban
Destiny's X post, in which he revealed the reason for his first Kick ban, has garnered significant traction, eliciting responses from thousands of netizens.
X user @antenacactus speculated that this was the "first time" Kick banned a streamer for "hate speech":
"This is probably the first 'hate speech' ban kick has given out," said X user @antenacactus.
X user @enjoy_the_envy said the indefinitely banned Twitch personality was "pushing the issue too far":
"Keyboard warriors always push the issue until someone confronts them face to face. I don't respect you at all anymore, but dude, you're pushing an issue too far. Not too far to the point where it's not your right, but too far to the point where it's not right. I'm telling you this because there is a lot of emotion going on in this country, and people take that very personally..." commented X user @enjoy_the_envy.
Meanwhile, X user @JosephACostello called the suspension a "timeout":
"This ain't a ban, this is a timeout," wrote X user @JosephACostello.
In other news, on July 16, 2024, Destiny revealed that his official X account (@TheOmniLiberal) got locked because one of his posts violated the platform's rules against "violent speech."
