VTuber Nyanners was unexpectedly banned by Twitch on October 24, 2024, with many fans asking what happened with the former VShojo streamer to have warranted the suspension from the streaming platform. Initially, the exact reason for the ban was unknown but it seems that it was because she played a particular video game during her livestream.
As of this writing, the following message appears when trying to access the VTuber's official Twitch channel:
"This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service."
Why was Nyanners banned from Twitch? Reason explored as fans call on Twitch to unban the VTuber
After the news of the ban was reported by the StreamerBans bot, a video game developer (@amarilloarts_ on X) made a post apologizing to Nyanners, hinting that playing his game titled Butt Slapper on livestream was what had gotten the VTuber banned from Twitch.
While expressing gratitude to Nyanners for playing his game, @amarilloarts_ wrote:
"Nyanners will forever be remembered as the one who slapped the hardest. I did this to you, I'm sorry! If you're reading this by any chance, I'll do anything in my power to make it up. I know it's not much, but you have my gratitude for playing my dumb game."
Within an hour of the ban going into effect, Nyanners confirmed the reason for the ban in a post on X. She also shared a clip of the supposed moment that got her in trouble with Twitch.
The former VShojo VTuber has apologized to the fans for the inconvenience, writing:
"This was apparently the reason for the ban, I am sorry Mr. Twitch, and sorry everyone for the trouble. I slapped too close to the sun and got burned, but I will rise from the asses. I will return soon."
The news of her second suspension did not sit well with a lot of her fans, who immediately started asking Twitch to lift the suspension:
"FREE OUR CAT," demanded @SecondCITE.
"FREE THE PINK CAT," wrote @AttilleeVtuber.
Some maintained that Nyanners had done nothing wrong to get banned:
"There's no way you're fr right? She did nothing wrong, like what the hell twitch!!" said @VeibaeVirus.
One viewer claimed that Twitch "hates" VTubers:
"Seriously, Twitch? Just admit that you hate VTubers already!" claimed @SuperDorian64.
This is not the first time that Twitch has been accused of being discriminatory against VTubers. While Nyanners has taken the news of the ban quite well, last month, fallenshadow accused the platform of having anti-VTuber bias after she was banned for having a couple of drinks on her broadcast.
Speaking of VTubers, Sykkuno recently introduced the concept to incumbent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders when he appeared on a Twitch stream with the politician in his virtual avatar of a cat-boy.
