On July 24, 2024, reports claiming that Dr. Alok Kanojia, popularly known as "Dr. K's," medical license had been reprimanded surfaced on social media. For those unaware, Dr. K is a renowned figure in the livestreaming and content creation communities, who runs the "HealthyGamer_GG" Twitch channel. He frequently collaborates with popular streamers to provide insights into mental health.
Earlier today (July 24), X user @dancantstream tweeted that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts had reprimanded the psychiatrist's medical license for "past conduct" related to his "inappropriate relationship" with late Twitch streamer Byron "Reckful."
The social media post reads:
"Today, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts reprimanded @dr_alokkanojia, aka Dr K, on Twitch's license for his past conduct regarding Healthy Gamer. Read the doc here - it goes into detail into his inappropriate relationship with Reckful."
Exploring what the document has said about Dr. K's "inappropriate relationship" with late Twitch streamer Reckful
On the fourth page of the document, it was stated that Dr. K connected with Reckful in December 2019 for a two-hour interview on Twitch. Throughout their interaction, the two "engaged in conversation" about depression, bipolar disorder, suicide, and psilocybin.
On the fifth page, the document described Dr. K and Reckful's fourth Twitch livestream, during which the psychiatrist stated that he would "try to love" Reckful for "two years."
Regarding their fifth interaction on the Amazon-owned platform, the following information was shared:
"During this video, the Respondent (Dr. K) and Reckful engage in a conversation addressing their discussion from January 23, 2020 (their fourth Twitch livestream). The Respondent and Reckful discussed the bounds of their relationship and whether the Respondent was Reckful's therapist or friend. The Respondent acknowledged that his 'very bold claim' about loving Reckful for two years was 'irresponsible.' Later in this video, Reckful told the Respondent he remained conflicted about the status and definition of their relationship."
According to the document, Reckful's friend contacted Dr. K to discuss the content creator's declining mental health before he died by suicide on July 2, 2020.
On the sixth page, it was concluded that Dr. K "engaged in conduct that undermines public confidence in the integrity of the medical profession."
