While browsing Instagram on January 1, 2025, streamer Felix "xQc" came across a story from hip-hop legend, Kanye "Ye" West. The post depicted a short video of the rapper playing Naughty Dogs' second rendition of its award-winning game, Last of Us, with a caption stating that it is the "best ever made so far". The streamer reacted in shock and confirmed that the story was real.
For context, the rapper hailed The Last of Us Part ll by stating:
"Last of Us Part 2 on Survivor+ got me spending all day on one board. By faaaaaaarrrr the best game ever made so far. This is not a sponsored post."
While reacting to Kanye's take on the game, xQc said the following:
"Man this Ye guy huh buddy?! Actually real, interesting. That's pretty crazy."
The Last of Us Part II, released in June 2020, received widespread acclaim from critics for its storytelling, gameplay, and technical achievements. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 93/100 based on 132 critic reviews, indicating "universal acclaim."
xQc, however, thought the game did not live up to its widely successful predecessor when he played it back in 2020. He expressed that the game felt "uneventful, inconclusive, and hollow," indicating a sense of dissatisfaction with its narrative and pacing:
"All of you over-analyzing pseudo-intellectuals need to stop trying to justify and defend the ending of The Last of Us Part II. It felt uneventful, inconclusive, and hollow. The game is good, but the key moments were bad. Just face it."
xQc reacts to The Last of Us Part II: Remastered
Despite his critiques, xQc acknowledged the game's critical acclaim and continued playing. Overall, the streamer's experience with The Last of Us Part II was mixed, as he found certain aspects lacking. That said, he remained engaged due to its overall positive reception.
The game's remaster hit PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024, with a PC launch via Steam and Epic Games Store set to follow on April 3, 2025. This remastered edition offers enhanced visuals, including 4K support, improved textures, and shadow quality, alongside a new Unlocked Framerate option for TVs with VRR.
xQc reacted to the announcement trailer and called, beforehand, that the game would be some remaster of the original:
"Remake, revamp, reimagined, re-delivered, rebirthed... Oh my God, I actually called it."
In other news, xQc criticizes Adin Ross and YourRage for making unprofessional remarks about Kick after departing the platform.
