During a livestream on December 4, 2024, Twitch and Kick star Felix Lengyel, better known as xQc, shared his views on George Floyd and the protests that followed his death. While watching YouTuber Tyler Oliveira's controversial video about the subject, xQc expressed the belief that the protests and Floyd’s death were not primarily about racism.
Tyler Oliveira has faced significant backlash for his recent video, titled I Investigated George Floyd’s “Murder,” which has been accused of promoting anti-Black views.
After watching around 40 minutes of the video, xQc remarked that, in his opinion, Floyd’s death and the nationwide protests that followed were not fundamentally about racism:
"I am actually kind of sold. After a thorough watch of all the scenarios, I don't even know how any of those are about racism. That's my take after watching all of it. I don't see it."
xQc claims he is not sold on the idea that racism was the cause of George Floyd's death
George Floyd's death on May 25, 2020, led to widespread protests across the U.S., calling attention to issues of police brutality and racial injustice. These protests, later known as the George Floyd protests, were a pivotal moment in the Black Lives Matter movement.
In April 2021, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for his role in Floyd's death, facing charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
The video that xQc was watching, by Tyler Oliveira, is focused on questioning the details surrounding Floyd's death and the subsequent protests.
A clip of the streamer discussing his opinion that the case was not about racism gained attention on social media after being shared by the xQc Clips channel on YouTube.
In further explaining his stance, the Twitch and Kick star argued that he did not feel the case presented clear evidence of racism, claiming that the arguments around it were not compelling enough. He also expressed doubt that there was sufficient "language or behavior" to support the idea that racism was a central factor in the incident.
"If something is systematic, I know it is difficult, I think it is important to attack the blocks that are the most certain, that are the most proven, right? Because then your case is solidified. Always start with your best arguments and then work your way down, right? When you take two cases where there's not a lot of language or behavior that looks like racism, the whole thing isn't going to be a strong case against racism.
"If you want to make that case, sure, I am hearing it. But, it's hard for me to vocalize for it. I am not being sold on it."
This is not the first time xQc has discussed sensitive topics related to racism. In September 2024, he also addressed comments made by fellow streamer Asmongold about Palestinians, stating that while he disagreed with the remarks, they were not necessarily racist.
