Asmongold has taken some responsibility for Twitch demonetizing certain streamers after HasanAbi accused him of being behind the so-called ad apocalypse or "adpocalypse" on the platform.
For context, HasanAbi recently claimed that Asmongold's remarks about Twitch's moderation and his statement about bringing on Destiny's podcast co-host, Dancantstream, to expose anti-Semitism and racism on the platform, supposedly resulted in streamers losing their monetization.
HasanAbi's claims came after Twitch streamers Bigex and Kaysan said their channels had been demonetized for using tags related to their countries of origin, such as Iran and Venezuela.
In his latest livestream, Asmongold acknowledged the criticism, admitting he might have played a part in the demonetization and ad apocalypse, and even welcoming others to hold him accountable. He further criticized Twitch and its creators for not holding each other accountable.
"I don't think that it is my fault specifically, I do think that some of the adpocalypse stuff is my fault, and you are welcome. Yeah, you are welcome. That's what happens, too bad. 'That's Twitch's fault, period', yeah. It would have never escalated like this if people had held each other accountable and not tried to come up with excuses for bad behavior."
"Everybody can see the double standard": Asmongold talks about streamers on Twitch getting their channels demonetized
Asmongold has been critical of Twitch for some time, calling out its supposedly dubious moderation practices. This came to a head when content creator Central_Committee seemingly threatened Kick and YouTube streamer Destiny over political differences.
At the time, Asmongold announced that if Central_Committee was not banned for at least two weeks, he would invite Destiny's friend and co-host, Dancantstream, to discuss allegations of anti-Semitism and racism against Twitch. Hours after his announcement, the platform banned Central_Committee for roughly three days.
Despite this, Asmongold came across a clip of HasanAbi blaming him for the demonetization of channels. The OTK co-founder claimed that Twitch had allowed "double standards" in terms of moderation, permitting streamers to say "bad stuff" as if it were acceptable.
"What's happened instead is that people on Twitch have tried really hard to come up with reasons why being racist or being wrong and saying bad stuff like this is acceptable. It's not acceptable, it never was acceptable and I think everybody can see the double standard.
"This is something that I also practice. I said something stupid about the whole Palestine thing, remember that? That was not a good day. And I got suspended for two weeks because of that. Not once have I said publicly that I didn't deserve that."
For context, Asmongold was referring to his own two-week ban from Twitch after making controversial statements about Palestinian culture while discussing the Middle East conflict last month.
