On October 22, 2024, Canadian Fitness YouTuber and professional bodybuilder Jeff Nippard accused fellow fitness content creator Mike Van Wyck of assault. For context, while working out in a gym (Pure Muscle and Fitness), Nippard was confronted by Van Wyck, who was seen 'jabbing' Nippard in the throat:
Later today (October 22, 2024), Jeff Nippard gave an update regarding the situation.
"I just want to give an update that I got a CT scan done and I’m okay."
He went on to explain that it was Mike Van Wyck who had initiated the confrontation.
"Mike brushed by me and said 'Sup.' This was our first engagement that day. I chuckled. Mike said 'oh things are about to get real funny' as he walked past me. I then asked him 'what did you mean by that?' and I made sure my cameraman was filming in case he tried any funny business. Then he walked back toward me, he said 'turn the camera off' and immediately jabbed me in the throat."
Once Jeff was back up on his feet, he was reportedly "jabbed" in the throat a second time. Additionally, his videographer was reportedly "shoved."
"I stood back up, and he told me never to talk about him ever again. Then he jabbed me in the throat a second time. Then he turned to my videographer and pushed him against a cable machine."
"There is Gym security footage to prove it" - Jeff Nippard accuses Mike Van Wyck of assault
After the incident, Fitness YouTuber Jeff Nippard mentioned that the gym has all the footage to back up his claims.
"There is gym security footage to prove it. It’s up to the gym if they want to release it. As of now, Pure Muscle and Fitness is still allowing Mike to train clients at the gym."
Nippard has also stated that he isn’t entirely sure why Van Wyck had suddenly "attacked" him. However, he feels that they have differing opinions on working out, which might have led to the incident.
"My opinion is that it was the result of anger brought on by the clip I posted yesterday responding to his question about science-based training."
The video Jeff Nippard was referring to was a YouTube Shorts video in which Mike Van Wyck appeared dismissive of science-based trainers. In response, the former explained in a video that science-based training has helped him win multiple competitions and maintain an optimal physique.
