Popular YouTuber Matthew "MatPat" has announced his retirement from content creation. Earlier this year, the content creator surprised the internet when he announced his departure as host of The Game Theorists and The Film Theorists. In a video titled, Goodbye Internet, he bid an emotional farewell to fans of the channels, saying:
"It's not clickbait. On March 9, I will be hosting my last theory episode ever. At which point, I will be handing off my channels to someone else."
Nine months later, the YouTube veteran announced he was "retiring again." In The Film Theorists' video, Film Theory: The Amazing Digital Circus Will STEAL Your Soul!, the 37-year-old stated that while he had left The Game Theorists and The Film Theorists, he had been frequently appearing on GTLive. However, he has now decided to step away from that channel as well.

He then revealed the new host for the GTLive channel:
"Giving way to the new host, Ash, who, let's be honest, is way funnier than me, anyway."

In the YouTube video mentioned above, MatPat announced the "Big Going Away Party" livestream, which will take place on October 26, 2024. This broadcast will be a charitable endeavor, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
MatPat said:
"So, this Saturday, October 26, at 1 o'clock PM Eastern, 10 o'clock Pacific, we're having a Big Going Away Party Live, and I want you to be there. Consider it an era's tour for GTLive, where we're playing games and getting all nostalgic about the last decade of streaming. And most importantly of all, this whole thing is meant to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"In fact, in this stream, we're raising money for their most urgent wishes, what are known as the Rush Wishes. The one where, sadly, the children don't have that much time left."
