The Black Tiger vs Silver Panther "controversy" has left fans puzzled after YouTubers Thomas "TommyInnit" and Johnathan "Jschlatt" initiated what many have speculated to be an ARG (Alternate Reality Game). To those unaware, an ARG is a type of interactive storytelling in which players can partake through solving puzzles and tasks, allowing the story to progress further. These typically make use of photos, videos, text, and other types of media.
In this case, the media came in the form of YouTube videos uploaded by both TommyInnit and Jschlatt on YouTube channels named Black Tiger and Silver Panther, respectively.
This article covers the "controversy" that these videos have spawned, and the story of the ARG so far.
Exploring the TommyInnit Black Tiger vs Silver Panther ARG
The ARG began with TommyInnit uploading four videos to the Black Tiger channel on the same day. The first video of the ARG, 10 Years of Black Tiger!, was uploaded on July 24, 2024. In the video, TommyInnit plays the character of a YouTuber describing his ten-year-long "journey" from an up-and-coming content creator to earning over 20 million subscribers before his channel was supposedly taken down from the platform.
In the second video, titled HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!, TommyInnit (still in character) claimed that he now legally owned the words, "Black" and "Tiger", individually. In the third video, also uploaded on the same day titled I'm Sorry, he claimed there was much backlash against him for his attempt to copyright the words. However, he stated that he would not let them "silence his roar" or apologize for his actions.
In his fourth video, titled retiring., he made mention of an individual named "Silver Panther", who was attempting to steal his fanbase from him following his "mistake". He also called for his fans to "hurt" Silver Panther if they were to come across him. He further claimed that this would prove to be the "end of" Black Tiger.
This is the point where Jschlatt made an appearance through his own YouTube channel, aptly titled Silver Panther, where he uploaded two videos on August 5, 2024. In the first one, titled I love you. (2 month special), Jschlatt played the character of Silver Panther and celebrated the "two-month anniversary" of his channel. He stated that he had gained "fifteen million subscribers" and claimed that he had commissioned a new Netflix series.
In a succeeding video, titled Black Tiger Is Cancelled., Jschlatt (playing the character of Silver Panther) stated that he was now the "king" since Black Tiger had "retired". He also made allegations against Black Tiger of beating up a child and drinking bottles of "stuff" at the pub. Towards the end of the video, with tears in his eyes, Silver Panther expressed his love towards his fans.
Now, TommyInnit's most recent video of the ARG, titled The Truth. was uploaded on the Black Tiger channel on August 17, 2024. Within it, he talked about the "allegations" that had been made against him by Silver Panther. Calling them "lies", he stated that he had filed a defamation lawsuit. He then confirmed that he had in fact beat up a child, as mentioned previously by Silver Panther, and also that he was a "drinker".
He also confirmed that he "fakes" his videos, does not pay his editors, texts his fans to say "really nice things" to them, and mistreats participants of his videos since he "hates people". However, he clarified that he had been "reeducated" and had decided to "uncopyright" the words "Black" and "Tiger". Further, he stated that he would not engage in physical fights against children even if they "have it coming".
The video continued, with the focus now on Silver Panther. Black Tiger stated that Silver Panther was a "pervert", did not "wash himself", smoked "incessantly" and had mental health issues. He also stated that he had received an email from an ex-member of the Silver Panther's team citing mistreatment. Black Tiger also called out other creators who had targeted him, such as the Golden Shark.
Towards the end of the video, multiple YouTubers made cameos as different characters. Jordan "CaptainSparklez" appeared as Red Pufferfish, Seán "JackSepticEye" as Green Giraffe, Alastair "Ali A" as Cyan Monkey, Matthew "MatPat" as Crazy Crab, and Joseph "Stampylonghead" as Orange Orangutan, with all of them expressing their support for Black Tiger,
Black Tiger's mention of receiving an email from an ex-member of Silver Panther's team and the allegations made against him of "mistreating" the participants of his videos and "faking" the videos themselves may have been references to the ongoing drama involving Jimmy "MrBeast".
To those unaware, YouTuber Rosanna Pansino claims to have received messages from multiple ex-contestants of MrBeast's upcoming show, Beast Games. In these messages, the individuals cited incidents of mistreatment including improper provision of basic amenities like food, water, and medications.
