YouTube star Luke Goodwin passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 35. He was battling a rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma for around two years, which eventually led to his demise. The news was confirmed by his wife, Beckey, on August 4, 2024.
Leiomyosarcoma is a type of cancer that originates in the smooth and involuntary muscles and is often discovered in different body parts, such as the urinary and digestive systems. It is divided into three different forms, including somatic soft tissue LMS, cutaneous or subcutaneous LMS, and LMS of a vascular origin.
There is also a lineup of symptoms that can help in the diagnosis, including tiredness, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, fever, and weight loss. Leiomyosarcoma can lead to complications like abdominal pain, appetite loss, and black stools.
In a YouTube video, Luke Goodwin's wife, Beckey, said that she never wanted to share the news and expressed gratitude to his fans for supporting him while he was struggling with the disease. She praised Goodwin by saying:
"He was an amazing person, he showed me how to be strong even when you are going through the toughest times, he was just amazing, an amazing dad, son and husband. It's still rather raw at the minute, but you've got to keep your head strong. That's what Luke would say."
Luke is survived by his wife, Beckey, and their two children, Taylor and Scarlett. While detailed information on Goodwin's career and early life is currently awaited, he was active on Instagram with more than 3,000 followers. His cancer battle was additionally featured in a YouTube channel titled I Will Not Be Defeated. It accumulated more than 7,000 subscribers.
Luke Goodwin documented his cancer battle through social media after being diagnosed
As mentioned, Goodwin's diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma was revealed back in August 2022, and he was told that he had a year to live. He began undergoing treatment for the disease, including chemotherapy, and told Grimsby Live in an interview this year:
"In October [2023] I was told I had 'months to live' regardless of whether I had chemo or not. I didn't think I'd see my daughter's birthday but I am surprising everyone, including oncologist."
Apart from this disease, Luke Goodwin battled COVID-19, and a tumor in his liver expanded, severely impacting his kidneys. His treatment was eventually paused when doctors found that they could not proceed further due to blood deficiency and liver failure.
Luke Goodwin stated that his family members were called to the hospital to be informed about the same, and the doctor told them that he would be put on "end-of-life care." He continued:
"I don't think you can prepare for that kind of thing. When they first told me I had 12 months left, it was a shock, but once it went past that, I was thinking, 'Right, OK, we've beat this one, let's see how far we can go', but then my oncologist told me it was a matter of months about nine or ten months ago."
The social media star's family also tried to collect funds for his funeral and other costs through JustGiving. The description mentioned that Luke was trying to give the best memories to his family before he died so they could remember him forever. It read:
"Thank you all for your support, the words, comments, letters etc. It really has shown me I have some amazing people with me on and throughout this wild journey."
Luke Goodwin shared a post about the fundraiser on Instagram on July 4, adding a link to the page.
