Twitch is reportedly ready to launch a new Content Classification Label (CCL). For those unaware, the platform introduced CCL tags to give a heads-up to the viewers about the content they are about to watch. So far, these tags involve streams with content such as "mature-rated games," "significant profanity or vulgarity," and "gambling."

Today (November 1, 2024), verified X user Zach Bussey (@zachbussey) revealed a new CCL tag. According to Bussey, Twitch is set to introduce a label for "Politics and Sensitive Social Issues."

Like other CCL, streamers who primarily discuss such topics on their streams must use this tag. Viewers will have the option to hide this type of content. Bussey's caption read:

"Twitch will soon launch a new Content Classification Label for 'Politics and Sensitive Social Issues.' Creators who create this content must label their streams. Viewers can hide this content. Advertisers can opt out of ads running on this type of content."

Which streamers will be affected by Twitch's new Content Classification Label?

Twitch offers a wide range of topics that streamers broadcast, with one of the most popular and relevant areas being content that covers politics or addresses sensitive issues. The new Content Classification Label for "Politics and Sensitive Social Issues" will likely appear on several popular streamers' channels.

Hasan Piker aka "HasanAbi," is likely one of the most prominent streamers who might need to use the new CCL. With over 2.7 million followers, he is one of Twitch's biggest political commentators. Recently, however, he has faced accusations of promoting "antisemitism."

For instance, US Congressman Ritchie Torres recently made a post targeting HasabAbi, where he labeled the Twitch streamer as "an apologist for the sexual violence of October 7th."

Another streamer who frequently discusses political topics is Morgan "Frogan." The streamer is currently banned after making provocative comments about wanting U.S. soldiers to develop PTSD. She is a vocal critic of the Palestine-Israel conflict. Once unbanned, she may also need to use the CCL.

While Frogan's suspension is temporary, other political commentators have faced worse. Steven "Destiny," the Kick and YouTube streamer, was indefinitely banned from Twitch in March 2022. The streamer is also known for his strong and often provocative political opinions.

Notably, Twitch has not yet officially announced or implemented the new CCL tag for "Politics and Sensitive Social Issues." This move follows recent concerns from advertisers expressing dissatisfaction over their ads appearing on streams with controversial or extremist content.
