The pair met each other in June 2017, at a party hosted by Kelsey Kreppel's roommate in her apartment. Cody Ko was 27 years old when he met Kreppel, who was 24 years old and working as a teacher at the time. The two immediately hit it off and began dating three months later. In December of the same year, she also started creating and uploading videos on her YouTube channel, which now has over one million subscribers.

A year later, in 2018, the two shifted together into an apartment located in Marina del Rey, California. She eventually started appearing in his videos and on his podcast Insanely Chill, which he hosted from December 20, 2016, to May 2, 2018.
